Bouncing tach?
Hey,
The tach on my 74 bounces quite a bit. It just seems to take a min to "catch up" when you really hammer on it. It makes it difficult to read especially when you get on it in the lower gears. Any suggestions? Thanks, Pat |
I seem to remember this being a symptom of dirty points. You might check your points and make sure the contacts are clean. Might be an easy fix.

I believe that symptom is common to a failing voltage regulator.

Mine started bouncing just as the alternator died.. Replaced the alternator and problem went away! Mine had teh intergrated voltage regulator, so hopefully it is that easy?

I second the point's responce. Could be dirty or just have a weak spring.

put a multimeter on the battery, record if it has the option.
my brothers tach was acting up, voltage was jumping to 17v! |
Was the voltage jumping when he revved it? I'll give it a try this evening. Thanks
Pat |
when the tach was jumping so was the voltage
