Bouncing tach?

Hey,
The tach on my 74 bounces quite a bit. It just seems to take a min to "catch up" when you really hammer on it. It makes it difficult to read especially when you get on it in the lower gears. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Pat

I seem to remember this being a symptom of dirty points. You might check your points and make sure the contacts are clean. Might be an easy fix.

I believe that symptom is common to a failing voltage regulator.

Mine started bouncing just as the alternator died.. Replaced the alternator and problem went away! Mine had teh intergrated voltage regulator, so hopefully it is that easy?

I second the point's responce. Could be dirty or just have a weak spring.

put a multimeter on the battery, record if it has the option.
my brothers tach was acting up, voltage was jumping to 17v!

Was the voltage jumping when he revved it? I'll give it a try this evening. Thanks
