Black plastic ignition ring.

Quick question, using some soap and water on the instrument panel, turned the plastic ring around my ignition a milky white.

What's that all about, and is it easy to replace? Thanks.

Drop it in some black RIT dye mixture overnight. Pick up some red dye and Wite-Out and you can rejuvenate your heater control knobs while you're at it.

The little things can really dress up the 911 office.

I wonder if shoe dye would work well?

also could try just treating it with a plastic & rubber treatment

Scotch-Brite pad and some Wurth Satin Black did the trick on the last two "chalky" ignition bezels I had.

A broad black felt-tip pen might work.

I've only done the red dye and and Wite-Out on my heater control knobs. My car's ignition trim looks great.

Like Randy said, liquid black shoe polish should work for that plastic trim piece, too.

I had milky white ignition ring and door lock rings. I accidentally discovered that Eagle 1 Leather Care Creme Conditioner brings them back to their pristine, supple state.

It's a one time application and they've never turned milky again.

I just did this a couple of days ago. Vinyl/Plastic interior dye spray from your generic auto parts store on the two plastic parts and a few coats of matte black lacquer on the metal top ring will make it look like new.

Unscrew it, throw it in the trash and buy a new one. A new replacement cover will cost less than any cleaning solution you're planning on buying. If this is for your MY96 993 then you want Porsche part no #911-613-160-01-70B.
