dont try this at Home
We finally did it and build a Speedster Coupe . I didnt want to go the normal Route and just put a Plastic Speedster Top on a Coupe or Cabrio
After thinking about this for a long Time i found the perfect damaged Car to do this . 1992 Turbo , slid under a Truck and damaged the Roof in the Front . We now have the Top lowered about 4 inches and layed the shorter Windshield more flat . I am very serious when i say ,if you are not experienced dont try , as this is a major task even if you know how to do the normal Bodywork . After about 100 Hours of Bodywork we are almost done and it looks very nice . The next step is the Sidewindows .i want normal Roll-up windows ,not the Sliders like a GT 1 . I will keep you posted on the Progress and thought i share a Picture Harald ![]() |

Very nice, Harold. Pretty much like a "Chop Top" from the 1950's.

The fun part will be the back window- did you keep the entire surround pan intact for that? When a local so cal porsche body guy did the chopped top to his RSR look in 1975, he ran out of patience after getting the front windshield/ cowl/ front windows worked out. Since the car was basically a racer, it ended up with a piece of plexiglass for the back window. Shame as it was coming together so nicely.
Yours will be pretty nice- i noticed your cellette jig and previous posting on some nice cars

Good looking chop! I've always loved that look. I used to own a '58 choptop Karmann Ghia.

I am not really worried about the rear Glass , we have a Company here that is making glass to the specs i need . The really difficult thing is to fit the Speedster Windshield without the Frame .
As you know the celette is the only way to fix a Porsche the right way . But the main thing is to have a Body man that is as enthusiastic as we all and gifted with Talent . We have some pretty interesting Discussions almost every Day about the work we do ,here is another Picture from our " normal Work Area " interesting but sometimes we need to do something challenging and than things like the Speedster Coupe or the 964 RS 73 look happen . harald ![]() |

That is one sweet looking car already. I really dig the laid back window look but it just doesnt look right on the speedsters with hardtops because you lose the rear 3/4 windows. Speaking of which is there shape original or did you have to reprofile them a bit? Now what I really want to see are some headlights that have been chopped and laid back a bit...
cant wait to see it finished

hallo
i like the looks of the original headlights , otherwise a would use 993 Fenders/headlights . The Car is a Turbo 3.6 ( 965 ) and i wanted to keep the original lines ,just a little lower . It is much nicer in Nature than on the Pictures ,i am much more a Car Guy than a photograph as you can see . I try to snap some better ones when i start to work on it again . Harald |
