Valve adjustment...I"m stuck
Everything is off. The rotor is going toward the no 1 plug wire and also toward the mark on the distributor. Also, the crank pulley mark is pointing to a mark on the block, BUT I DO NOT SEE "Z1" Anywhere! I cannot fit the gauge into the No1 space at all. This leads me to assume I might not be lined up. It's not that there's a Z1 somewhere else, I can't find it anywhere. Just the marks on the inside lip of the pulley.
Should I stop and put it all back, or adjust it this way? ------------------ Kurt B 1984 911 Carrera Cabriolet 75 914 1.8 |

Just finished with mine, no Z on my crank pulley either. Just use the double slash and point distributor to #1. Make sure both exhaust and intake rocker has a little slack and you're there. Next move to the single mark and so on and so on.

I know on my 2.7l there is the Z1 and a 5 degree mark. So if yours is like mine and there are two marks relatively close together the one on the left while facing the engine is Z1.

Kurt,
Did you clean off the periphery of the crank pulley while looking for Z1? Was there clearance at both valves when dist. rotor was pointing to #1? According to the pics in the Bentley manual, there are 4 marks 'grouped' for cyl. # 1 ... appearing in this order scanning left to right: 5 deg. After TDC, Z1 or TDC, 30 deg. Before TDC, 35 deg. Before TDC. There are also single marks 120 and 240 degrees after the Z1 mark. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
