Unhappy New 17" lindsey's-Help !

Been following Pelican few 3 years now, thanks for all the good information ! Unfortunately my first post comes with problems. I just received my new set of rims from Mike at Lindsey's and I think the tire recommendation was a little off (Rims are out of this world ! ) The car is a stock 82' SC, so Mike suggested 8's & 9's. Tire recommendation for the backs was 255/40 zr 17's and they look really good, no problem at all. For the fronts, he suggested 245 /45 zr 17's. Not only do the tires rub, but they look too big as well. What tires would you guy's recommend? By the way, the tires are all new from Tire Rack-Kumho's Ecsta MX .

Looks like a typo there. 225/45-17 maybe?

Awesome car!l

Unfortunately, tire sizes deviate slightly from brand to brand. I think Kumhos are notorious for not being as tight on wheels as other brands but that could be a rumor that I made up in my head. You might be out of luck on this one and might need to get a different brand for the front. The last thing I would do is raise the car.

Perhaps I misread the e-mail, but that's what on the car now. I don't think Tire Rack is taking it back, so I'll just remove them and move on.

They should be easy to resell as rears to someone.

Not sure on the size on the fronts but the wheels look good!

Depends on the wheel width for 8x17s 225/45 or 235/45 or 235/40 would work better, 225 will fit better 235 to dial out understeer

When people use 245 fronts it's almost always 245/40 and 265 -275 rears

245-45-17 is sometimes used on the front for racing, but 245-40-17 is more common. 245-45-17 is a tight fit due to the large diameter, but both are tight due to the width. You would need to completely roll or shave your fender lips and run lots of negative camber. Most people running those sizes have big torsion bars, 22-23 mm diameter. You will still rub on the tub. But it can be done.

225-45-17 is very common up front. Again you will need to roll your fenders and you may rub on the tub near full lock depending on offset.

Nice wheels!

I would like to keep the backs just the way they are. I don't plan on ever talking the car to a track, just a weekend driver. As far as shaving or rolling-that's not my idea of fun either. A local tire shop recommended a 225/ 40 or 45 but that does not sound right either. I obviously don't know too much about tires! Just want a tire that will fit without mod's and has a similar look to the backs.

225/40 will be too short, for ease of fitment 225/45 is the way to go, it a good match for your 255/40 rears

225-45-17 is what you want in the Kumho MX. 225-40-17 is not very common. Try them without rolling the fenders, they may be just fine, depends on the wheel offsets, your ride height, etc. If you have to roll your fenders it's no big deal. You definitely don't want to go any narrower than 225 on the front with 255s on the rear.

Nice wheels!

Above is true. I have Linsey 8s up front and have Kuhmo 245,45x17. They were very tight with raised spindles, rolled fenders, and about 2.5 degrees of neg camber. I switched them out fo Toyo RA-1 235,45 and I havent had any issues. The rears are a different story. 9.5 with 275,40. It took alot to get them not to rub. 1/2' spacer, 3 degrees of neg, and rolled fenders. It seems that all cars are not the same especially when pushing or stretching tire to the ultimate limit.

sure he didn't mean 215/45/17? I had those on the front of my c2 with no issues.

Beautiful wheels on a beautiful car.

What front bumper is that? Where did you get it?

The standard fit on a 17 on a narrow body car is a 225/45/17. Gives the same approx rolling diameter as the 255/40/17 rear and the 205/55/16/ or 225/50/16 front that most folks run on the 16 inch wheel.

Cheers
