Died & re-started

Over the weekend, my '88 Carrera died three times while driving but I was able re-started.

symptoms- driving along and then a sudden loss of power and warning lights come on. Turn off then re-start. This happened twice then I was on my way.

The last time, when I tried to re-start, I thought I heard the starter just clicking. Not sure though. I pulled over and tried to turn it over a few times and just heard the click sound. On the 4 try, fired right up.

The power loss felt similar to when I flooded my distributor once (drove through a BIG puddle) and had my spark ALL OVER THE PLACE.

I did a search, but there are sooooo many hits for this I thought somebody might have a quick idea.

Thanks in advance!
-Wade
