Anybody using solid motor mounts?
 

It is time for me to replace my motor mounts and was thinking about the solid ones. If you have/ had them how do you like them? My car is driven mostly (95%) on the track.

I use solid mounts. I love them. I bought mine from TRE. They weigh next to nothing, IIRC, are insanely inexpensive, and a snap to install - or in my case, a snap watching them get installed. My car, BTW, is street driven. 5% track.

When you first put them on, it is really unbelievable how something so simple can tighten up the car's rear-end handling, the shifting, and make it overall just more responsive.

The caveat, so I've heard (no pun intended) is vibration. But I experienced very little vibration to speak of, even while having a mostly hollow interior, no engine pad or any other sort of sound deadening.

It also has been said that they vibrate the innards lose on Weber carbs. I've had Webers for over a year now, and there has been no ill-effect from solid mounts.

What I won't try, per Tyson Schmidt's advice, are solid transmission mounts. Tyson states they're just too loud and vibrate right through the gearshift. Not good, unless you have fantasies of holding things that...um...vibrate. ;)

Well, sort of by accident I ran solid transmission mounts and rubber engine mounts for a while (my spare transmission, with its mount attached, had solids, and I was too lazy to change it out). It wasn't bad. I thought clutch engagement getting going from 0 to 2 mph or 5 or so was a bit jerky, which I thought might be a result of no give. Otherwise I kept all my fillings.

Of course, this is a track prepared car with spherical, needle, or poly bronze bushings all around.

The WEVO bushings look worth considering as a compromise. I never thought I could feel a difference between regular mounts and Club Sport mounts.

I bought a set from TRE also - Smart Racing pieces. They weren't all that expensive, although I guess it's relative. $100 or so for a pair. They are easy to install though.

Many years for me and vibrating carburetors is not a problem...

I put clubsport (same as cabriolet?) mounts at the trans. Nothing vibrating in my hand....while I'm driving my 911 that is.

dd pretty much tells the story, not much reason for me to post except to confirm . Don't fear the solids L8R - for a track car it's a no-brainer, for a street car it's still an improvement.

jeff i'm seriously considering the wevo eng/tranny mounts. 76 bucks each. tell me what you find out. mine are 20 years old in an arizona car. and we both know what that does to rubber on these cars here. figure any way i go i will be improving things.

I also do not run a sound pad. Vibration isn't so much an issue but I do get more gear sounds than I did with stock mounts - more-so in 5th gear. This doesn't bother me though, I actually enjoy it - more mechancial Porsche music to listen to!

The responsiveness is what I like most...

from the above, i guess i'll be hitting the bolts w/some PB-BLASTER tonight! man i am loosing it...........dreaming about motor/tranny mounts!

Thanks for the info guys. Since my car is mostly driven on the track I will get the TRE (RSR) solid mounts for the motor. At $39.95 ea. they are about half of what the Wevo units cost. Please correct me if I'm wrong but, don't you have to replace the entire transmission support on a G-50 just to replace the mounts? Or is someone making replacements now.

Kroggers, The Wevo units are semi- solid.

I have Clubsport mounts on the rear and Wevo on the 915 transmission. It improved shifting a great deal. So far I can't see any downside to this combination.

I think Pelican has the RSR mounts for $80.20/pair. Click the link above...

I have solids in my Carrera. It does make a difference in shifting. I've found that car doesnt really vibrate much more than stock.

Wevos are on the tranny. It's always a shame you can't see them. They're so pretty!
