Butt Question
I'm getting ready to have my 1977 Targa repainted. Previous owner had installed an aftermarket fiberglass tail, which I'm thinking of removing.
While it doesn't look bad, I prefer the plain rear end look from an aesthetic standpoint. However, after looking closely at the tail, it would appear to give much better ventilation than the standard grill, and my car does run nice and cool (about 170 degrees), which is important here in San Antonio. I do not have an auxiliary oil cooler. Question is, is this tail helping keep my car cool? If so, I'll keep the tail. If not, I'll have to hunt for a new grill. Thanks in advance for the insight.

Published reports from the likes of Frere and/or Ludvigsen in their books... on the affects of the spoiler.... indicate it does indeed provide a more positive pressure area and lowers temp around 10 degF under average driving conditions.

how hot do you get in the Tejas summer?
you might be able to add a cooler if the regular tail heats things up too much, or have 2 tails and swap seasonally or avoid driving in the heat of the day

Usually touches 100 degrees a few times per summer, thank goodness here in SA the humidity is pretty reasonable.
Trade off is that mid December (as in today) I can cruise around Christmas shopping in comfort without my top......... Planning on adding a cooler as time and budget allow, but as for not driving in the heat of day, this is going to be my daily driver, it's WAY too much fun to have sitting in the garage. Got to enjoy it all I can until mama insists I get a papa car.
