new headers- no heat

911T 1974

Thanks for the advice so far... i have a bunch more newbie questions.

I just bought the car and it didn't have heat due to rusted heat boxes.

I have installed the stainless steel headers and heat box. replaced the flexable ducting and checked the operation of the lever by the E brake.

My problem is : I only get defrost heat only, and don't know what knobs or levers should give me cabin heat.

I have marked the picture 1 2 3 @ A B

Where do I find C? I presume it's an ash tray??
3rd'ly the wooden floor boards around the pedal and passanger side are missing and rotton,

I have searched the forum for templates as I want to replace these with G10 (garolite), does anyone know where to find them.

thx Boyd

If you slide all three controls (1,2,3) to the left with the heat lever by the e-brake pulled up, you should get heat coming into the footwells. The 74 does not have a heat blower in the engine compartment, so the heat is forced by the engine cooling fan; this translates to less heat at idle and more at higher rpms, but it does work quite well. The controls you labeled as A and B are for the air conditioning, which will come out of the vents in the knee pads, and these should not blow heat.

Contact a dismantler to get a used ashtray. Aftermarket floor boards in aluminum and plastic varieties can be purchased from our host.

1 controls the speed of the fresh air fan. 2 controls the location of the fresh air outlet; left is footwell, right is windshield, in between is a proportional mix. 3 controls the same for the heat. The levers by the parking brake control the amount of heat.
