I want to put a Subaru engine in my Baja. But I don't want to put a Chevy V8 in my 911. But if someone does, and does it right more power to them! (Pun? );)

heres a few vids:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=lVcXX0GPJUw http://youtube.com/watch?v=2bTKPXvypzY I will say this, in a 914 I think its very cool, I wouldnt touch a 911 with it though. |
I better duck and run then...I've got a subaru NA block in my SWB 912.

I am thinking about doing the opposite. I want to put a 911SC, 3.0 bullet proof motor in a Cadillac DeVille. I know I will be upsetting a lot of the purist senior citizens.

"heres a few vids:

I'll add my cents for the next to nothing it's worth as a 911 newbie...
I would not do it to my baby BUT... In the end it is still just a car, a thing, a consumable. If someone wants to do something I would never do to my 911, who am I to tsk tsk them? We all value our possessions to varying degrees and for different reasons... I would think we are able to recognize and accept (even value?) that. In another thread we have some blasting a member for posting about a Ferrrari. They say 'this is a 911 forum!'. Here, discussing an interesting topic directly related to a 911, we are again blasting away. I love this forum over all others because we are generally more 'open' to discussing the seedier side of 911 ownership. Nothing wrong with being a purist, but let the others inclined to explore other possibilites speak and ask questions. All in my humble opinion of course. Eric |
Last fall I was on the way to the PCA club race in Utah when we stopped for gas in Wyoming. At the same gas station was Scott of Renegade Hybrids towing a 930 (sans engine) back to Vegas. We both had Tundra tow vehicles and alumium trailers with 911s riding on them. In the middle of nowhere, such coincidences forced me to go over to visit with him after fueling. Of course, at the time I did not know who he was or that he was associated with Renegade Hybrids. Once I found out that the 930 was getting some Detroit muscle, I reacted with near total revulsion. No, No, NO! But after further conversation and me not wanting to appear as a total closed minded ass, I came around to the fact that Scott knew his sh** and had an "air" qualified confidence. Scott came across as a good guy, who was pretty kewl and on the straight up and up. Take this observation from a Porsche bigoted guy, who was going 800 miles to race his Porsche racecar and happened to meet the RH co-owner at a gas stop. I like my Porsche flat sixes, have built several 911 engines and no way would I ever insert a water pumper into one of my 911s. BUT I would seriously consider that option with my son's POS 924S with Renegade's assistance or their kit. Oh and I did ask Scott where was the 930's original engine... as I (like every other hard core Porschephile ) are constantly on the alert for a chance to pick up a good discarded turbo engine. It was sold already back in Ohio. YMMV, bash these RH guys if it pleases you but do some research first.

Umm, Does the kit include a Powerglide tranny and drum brakes?

Not another V8 thread to ruin the holidays? Didn't the last one just go away a few weeks ago??? Oh well, go ahead -- it's your car. But just consider this! |
