I had really good expereience with Forward Air, very cheap because you pick it up at the terminal, not as convenient.

Wrap it in saran wrap, strap it on to a wooden 1/4 pallet, weigh it and then go to www.freightquote.com = this website will give you several shippers and their quotes to choose from.

I bought a 2.7 engine from a fellow Pelican last summer (Gib Bosworth) and he shipped it to me strapped to a pallet via Yellow Freight. I believe the cost was about $300 from AZ to MI and I picked up the engine at the Yellow Freight terminal in Detroit with my truck. Yellow Freight did a great job and the engine was perfect, no damage at all... the engine had the exhaust and CIS on it.

One thing about on a pallet, I think I remember its cheaper to ship if you build a box over it. That way they can stack them??? Maybe I am remembering wrong.

I shipped on a few years ago to a fellow Pelican. Bolted to a pallet, and wrapped with heavy shrink plastic. By leaving it open, I was assured that it would stay right-side-up, and not get anything stacked on top of it.

I had a 3.6 shipped from NY to Seattle via Forward air for around 300 bucks. Great folks to deal with.
Cheers

Big thumbs up for Forward Air, they were fantastic. I believe with them you must build a box over the top of the pallet if you want to insure it.

You can buy boxes with a wooden pallet base. Use one of those.

Frank,
Call Randell at freightquote - 888-595-6298 ext. 1623 and he will walk you through the questions. I had the same questions and he was very helpful.
