Unhappy G50 clutch slave blues

I have an '87 Carrera with a G50 trans. The clutch slave is pissing fluid everywhere. Took a look at where this thing is located!! OMG!! Are there any tricks to get to this thing.....other than dropping the engine? It way up there on top of the tranny!

Thanks,
Greys

I believe you can release the front tranny mounts (knuckle, and ground strap) and lower it on a floor jack a few inches. Enough to reach it without too much difficulty. You have to do the same thing to replace your starter...so if it's getting tired...

But...double check to see if the bleeder screw just came loose. I think it's a 9mm wrench. You can reach that.

I just did mine proximately a month ago. It was possible to do it on jack stands but hell of a job.
Becarefull when you install it back in. Pay closed attention to make sure the pin is in the hole and be very careful when pushing it in when puting the nuts on, It is very easy for the pin to slip out of the hole.
Good luck.

It can be done with the engine in place, but you will be nearly crazy (like me) when you are done. Your forearms and shoulders will ache from straining and contorting to reach the screws. And since it is almost impossible to see the cylinder, most of it is done by feel.

Also don't jack the rear end too high. If you do that will expose opening of the clutch line in the master cylinder to air and you will get bubbles.

I wasted several agonizing, painful HOURS trying to do this without a partial drop. Please learn from my screw up and just do a partial drop.

do a part drop....makes the whole thing actually doable without going crazy...you found out...same thing happened to me .. did it a few times with no drop now do with some drop.... when I completely drop the engine and trans..when going back in I bolt the slave back in, with about 4 inches to go, and didn't have to disconnect and lose fluid/etc.
It's these types of tricks that makes the cars easy to work on...for the most part

Basically, IIRC, you undo the connection under the car for the shift lever and then put a jack under the front of the engine. The remove the two large bolts that hold the tranny carrier to the car. You can just lower it a few inches and watch to make sure nothing binds up. As an added tip when you want to reconnect it you can remove the 4 smaller nuts that hold the tranny carrier to the front of the tranny. This makes it LOT easier to get the large bolts at the ends of the carrier to line up with their holes and not get cross threaded.
Good Luck
