Time for the '06 awards. Let's start with the most improved car in 12 months.

Then we'll get on to funniest post, scariest, that sort of thing.

I'm going to get Jack Olsen at least a mention here for all the practical research and development of wings. Man, the guy worked HARD on that stuff and it worked for him. Anyone who takes a couple seconds off a lap time by building wings in his garage (with little experience) deserves some kudos for most improved.

I'm not purposely overlooking Darryl's 912 or Doug's RSR and a bunch more. There are really a lot of people who deserve mention.

Have at it.

All you mentioned are incredible, especially to a Porsche newbie like myself... I must say though, Darryl's work leaves me jaw-dropped every tiime we get an update. Most importantly (to me), his work on that car truly inspires me learn as much as I can about my 911 and what it will take to get her where I want her.

I guess that constitues a vote.

Hmm, there've been some really good threads and improved cars that I've seen.

But if you are talking about most improved during this year (January 2006 to the present), that's an easy one for me. It's gotta be this one:

January 2006

Current:

And the thread documenting it all:
Wrecked Carrera to 3.9RSR, WOW!

Chris Streit after a year of preparation and rebuilding at MotoDelta , took second place in GTS4 at the NASAProRacing Nationals.

My vote!

I think Matteo has 2007 locked - the rsr 964 is way up there - got to put some props up there for Nostatic and Don Plumley for preparing their cars and excercising them on the track.

How about Ted and his RSR/993rs beast?

I agree with all the owner's mentioned, all have spent endless time and $$ improving their Porsche's.
Great to see guys getting the track bug too!
But it might be a while before we see another Matteo style pan swap, that puts him way down the slope.

I've been kinda quiet since Halloween, mines been getting painted.
Rendering of the RSR/993 new paint job in street trim.
This car needs some street cred, maybe a picture of it at 7/11 refilling my Big Gulp.

My vote goes to Darryl and his 912. Beautiful craftsmanship. I'm taking nothing away from Matteo, but Darryl's really paid his dues in his garage.

How about Porsche Doc's C4 RSR Backdate? I think that was a pretty awesome project.

Started with this....

Finished it up with this...

What about my car (Helga)? I've replaced the engine, clutch, clutch cables, bushings, replaced the CIS with Webers, battery, ignition system, etc...

My car is running better than it ever did in the 4 1/2 years I've owned it and I owe a huge thanks to Tab Tanner and you guys!

1,000 Votes for Darryl.

Few have tangled with the Rust Monster and won. Not only has Darryl done that, he has maintained originality, and documented his repairs for all of us to learn from and enjoy!

Here's the link to the most recent thread documenting my (mis)adventures and subsequent resolution.

Helga's adventure, part 2 (the shop visit)

What do you guys think? I've been through alot and just about everything has been replaced/upgraded and the car runs like it never did before!

Art. you're definitley on the list, but you said time and time again you were selling against the advice of the board. I didn't think you still had the car you were so adamant.

Too many great projects to even begin to remember... but one is still vivid in my mind. How could I ever forget all the agonizing late nights spent on this car...

Took this...

Added parts from this...

Then lots of blood, sweat and money... and ended up with this...

Most improved street car: if the blue 911R one picture above has a engine to go with it, well then it might take the cake for me, otherwise.... i need to be swayed in a direction

most improved track car: Chris Streit @ motodelta...what a beast.... what was is 3 months from a rsr long hood look to a 964 turbo along with a complete engine teardown and build up?...wild

most controversial build (quality is garanteed just the method is questioned), thats gotta be between the 911 rsr look chevy powered, the carbon fiber clad rsr look w/3.2, and the black bastard w/mini headlights and a 3.5L....

-i swear, i'm not biaset :P

Milt,
I was going to sell Helga, but you guys and Tab Tanner talked me into converting to Webers and keeping the car. I was also facing the loss of my job at Ford, but after Tab put on the Webers and I drove the car home, I can't sell it, it's far too much fun!!! All I wanted was a car that I can drive and that's what I have now. I've been on two job interviews in the past two days and it looks like I'm going to make a "soft landing" and be able to get another good job without having to uproot my family. Things are looking up and I may buy a second Porsche after I build a bigger garage this coming summer. I simply cannot believe how much better Helga runs with the new engine and Webers!!! Thanks again for your advice!!
