993 Pro Drift Car

It's finally happened... a 993 Pro Drift Car!!

----------------------------- Article -----------------------------

Hankook Tires and CROSS come together to create a 993 Pro Drift Car!

Hankook Tires and CROSS North America are proud to announce North America's first professional Porsche drift car! Plans were set in late August to make a Porsche Drift car with Hankook Tire USA. The chassis is a 993 GT2 Turbo body with all the proper equipment. The 993 was originally a road race car but since many features of the car will apply to a pro-drift vehicle, very little modifications to the chassis were made. Exterior features a pearl white paint job that has been applied by DTM Autobody in El Monte, CA. Wide blister fenders, a rare JGTC Front Lip, and custom side steps were applied. Touching up the rear is a GT Wing. To propel the 993 into the corners will be a stroked 3.8 liter engine and feeding the engine will be six indivisual throttle bodies. Two IHI Turbos will boost the engine and custom CROSS exhaust manifolds and exhaust system will aid in expelling the gasses. The highly skilled technicians from the CROSS R&D Garage called ZIEL Sports will do all the engine building. The 993 made its debut at the Las Vegas SEMA Show on October 31st, 2006 and it made quite a stir within the drifting community. The driver will be legendary driving instructor and professional driver, Tyler McQuarrie (Overall 11th in points in Formula Drift in 2006). The 993 will be sliding around in the 2007 season at selected drifting events and the full Formula Drift Season. CROSS North America would like to thank our following supporters: Hankook Tires USA (http://www.hankooktireusa.com), Cobra Seats (http://www.subesports.com), and DTM ******** (http://www.dtm********.com).

Such a silly sport!! It's like syncronized swimming, except with $60.000-$100.000 dollar cars. The half naked girls running around on the infield makes it more fun to watch though!! But still I would rather see this car racing head to head and not competing in some sort of weird ballet. Just my opinion!!!

If its taking away time from NASCAR on SPEED and has Porsche content, I love it.

Wow. That's gotta be expensive. If you think drifting is costly enough just running an old 240SX Nissan chassis stuffed with relatively cheap SR20DET motors, I can't imagine what the bills will be like running a GT2 Porsche in a professional drifting series.

Drifting is the "New" Nascar of todays Kids, so they said
The stands are FULL, almost every single Tire company is in "Gee wonder why"

They better take some medicine, they are going to get hurt by the Nissan's and all of the other "low budget Cars"

I like drifting, I think something new sport won't hurt us at all. If we all still keep watching NASCAR I think we'll go nuts, waiting for another crash or keep going in oval circles with our eyes for 200 and over laps. . Rally, Formula 1, even destruction derbies are fun, everything that has to deal with turns is fun because that requires skill, going 200 miles per hour in a funny looking full size american car in circles is boring, I'm sorry if someone here likes nascar more than I do.

My .02 cents

what's this "WE" ?

watch NASCAR ? (apologies to those that do)

I barely can bring myself to acknowledge that rasslin-on-wheels exists, now we have this punks-on-RedBull-burning-rubber for points ? please.

Yes, both series require some skill, but I can't see watching them or taking them seriously (despite the money thrown at them or the money the drivers make, and as for half-naked girls running around.... sorry, if I can't touch it I don't want to look at it)

F1, CART, FIA-GT, ALMS, WRC, GrandAm - just my opinion, it's what floats my boat regarding watching

nothing that goes in circles

and live is better than TV of course, Petit LeMans this year was glorious... if only I could afford to do it even as an amateur, the occasional DE, owning and maintaining two fun 'relatively inexpensive' cars is expense enough...

In my eyes, NASCAR is pretty much beneath contempt, but it's marginally better than drifting for one reason: its competitors are still trying to get across a finish line first. Lame as it is, it's still a race.

Drifting isn't even that.

Which, to corrupt Hemingway's famous dictum, means that it's not a sport at all. Just a game.

Drifting is a race for time and points, as lame as it sounds, they race for points the more you have the better you are, I would say it's pararel. Both groups compete to be a winner. Either it is a finish line or points.

Hey, it's all better than tractor pulls, lawn tractor racing (which is hilarious that it even exists, not to mention watching once, only once) and monster trucks. One of the guys in my welding class is a drifter. I told him I'd go watch once. If a 993 were there, it would make it a bit more interesting for me.

Now, what's this about the girls? Maybe I need to hit him up for a pit pass.

I like drifting alot. Not the new commertial stuff they show on tv though its pretty lame. I had an 89 240sx before my porsche and although i liked how it griped better then how it slid around it was still alot of fun. That car was practicly as fun as my porsche because i could just flog it to no tommorow and it just kept on ticking. I am looking forward to seeing this porsche do the drifto. it should be pretty sweet

I don't know about Drifting, but something that I always had a problem with was racing around in circles. That was until I became a part of a pit crew for a dirt oval class last year (I'm in charge of chassis set-up). I find it interesting more from the technical end of things. I do not know what the general public sees in NASCAR other than the occasional spectacular pile-up. However, there is something to be said for being at a race where you can actually see all of the action.

My two cents.

I pretty much like all racing but if you want me to buy a ticket and go out to watch a race my money goes with the bikes

I've never saw live drifting only what they serve up on the telly looks like fun least to watch
