Smile 2460 lbs. with a half tank of gas

I finally made it to the scales today. Mildly pleased to see the diet is paying off, my 86 Carrera weighed in at 2460 lbs. with a half tank of gas. To date I have deleted A/C, all lines, evaporator, compressor, and rear cooler. All stereo gear, head unit, speakers amp and sub (previous owner). Removed fresh air blowers in foot wells and rear heater blower motor. Rear seat delete with RS carpets, RS door panels. Replaced front and rear bumpers with fiberglass IROC pieces from GT Racing, Carbon fiber hood and ductail from MA Shaw. Trunk is bare essentials, no spare, no tools, no carpet and removed anything left not related to the fresh air blower.

Projects left.... Replace factory electric seats with racing shells, remove center console, get rid of side sills and torsion covers. Looking forward to 07 projects......

Congratulations on your leaner, meaner Carrera Whtnkls911!

I have an 87 Targa with the same deletes (except for carbon hood and f/g bumpers) with no roll bar, a light M&K muffler, and manual Sports Seats. Mine weighs in at 2465 lbs.

They get more fun as they get more light!

Mike

That's a great weight in my opinion. Mine is going in tomorrow for CB after the new suspension. I have done most of what you've done except haven't done FG yet. FG will go on in 07 and the car will be done. I have deleted the center console and have racing shells but also have a roll bar. I'd love to see a weight around 2500.

That's about what mine weighs, and I've got all fiberglass body parts except the roof, as well as race seats, rear seat delete, and other weight-saving mods.

AFAIK..factory electric seats weigh something like 55 lbs each. Replace with 14-17 lb shell type buckets and you'd be about 70-75 lbs ahead....easy weight compared to other options you might still consider at this point.

Congratulations! Once you do the seats, you'll be over the top!

IMO, not that this weight is entirely unbelievable, it should be accompinied by a picture of the scale shot... or the corner balance results..

though after all, even w/the scale shot many still doubt reading, they start saying that the scale is inaccurate....

i've never personally seen a scale off more then ~50lbs.... and passnagers/bags can effect more then that...

great looking car, love the iroc front bumper!!

Could I get some details about what you have done in the trunk?

Are you still able to use your fresh air blower, after removing all the A/C stuff? I don't think I was able, but it has turned cold and haven't checked it. The fresh air will blow in defrost mode right?
