Momo 350mm wheel vs stock
Changed my wheel today and thought I'd post a pic of a momo 350mm vs the stock wheel. Visually not much of a "size" difference, however, the feel of the wheel, ease of turning and ease of getting in the car are markedly improved. I should not have waited so long.....could be the best mod to date! I also added a 1" alum spacer which has reduced my reach and increased comfort (I'm 6'1"). Pics are a little dark, but you should get the idea.

What was Porshe thinking with the 4 spoke wheel?
The 3 spoke is bad enough, I still have the 3 spoke. I need to make the change. Looks great.

It looks great Mark. I have a 350mm Momo in my '87 and am so glad to have it (I'm 6'2"). I first drove one in Drago's car and was sold on the improvement both visually and for entry/exit. It definitely blocks my line of sight for the speedo between 60 and 100, (as Mikez mentions) but I know where each 10mph point is by RPM in 4th or 5th gear.
I am curious if the 1" spacer improves the visibility of the gauges? I'd be interested to hear what is obscured for you, as we're about the same height. Good work!

Big improvement. IMO the Carrerra wheel is one of the ugliest wheels put in a 911.

My visibility of the spedo is about the same with the spacer. Depending on head position I'm blocked at 60 to 70 up to 100. Here's a few pics in better light. BTW, with the 1" spacer, the wheel is 2-1/2" from the dash and 3" from the turn signal switch...very comfortable distances!

Looks great Mark! We run a Nardi 360 and a smaller Momo Corse in our 86's, and we simply rotated the speedos a bit counter-clockwise to "free up" the needed sight area.

I finally bought that spacer last year. Should have done it long ago.
great improvment, except signal and wiper levers are farther away and I miss them all the time with my fingers. Turning the speedometer so you can see 100+ mph works. at least you'll know if you're going to jail or not |

Both my 911 and the 944 race car have 350mm Momos. Huge difference. Especially getting rid of the "bus" steering wheel that the factory put in the 911 in 1973.
I do some autocross instructing, and whenever I get in a car with a stock wheel, I wonder how anybody can drive with that big pig of a wheel. |

I'm thinking of doing the same thing, however I have a question.
Does your hand hit your leg when cornering with the new wheel? This is my only major issue with the stock wheel. Looks really nice though. Thanks for the pics. The Momo looks right at home! Al |

Al, I sometime had the same prob with hand hitting the leg......not any more! In addition to the smaller sized wheel, I think the spacer helps with this issue. It's so much more comfortable all the way around. Wish I'd done this earlier.

Mark, looks awesome. I have long legs and when they're comfy my arms are further away from the wheel than I'd like. I'm going to go with a Monte Carlo wheel and wasn't sure about the spacer. Will definitly install one as well after seeing & hearing your praise of it.
Get your care package yet?

Peter, it's a pretty easy job provided your steering wheel nut isn't frozen........mine had been off recently when PO replaced the windshield so the nut came loose easily. If yours is on tight, trick is to use a anti-theft bar for leverage as it is not advise to torque against the integrated wheel lock.
Horn pad pulls straight off on an 87. You'll need a short (std) 27mm socket (you can buy sockets individually at Sears) and a minimum 3" extension. A deep socket won't work.....you'll know why when you pull the horn pad (extra trip to Sears to exchange sockets for me!) Next step is to pull the turn signal cancel ring off the factory wheel and install on the new hub. All that's left is to splice the horn wire that comes with the Momo to the factory wire (b/c the female tab fitting is too small to fit over the momo horn tab) and reinstall the wheel. If all goes well, you're looking at about 1 hour. Mark, if you've got long legs like me, you will love the spacer....I wasn't sure if I'd need it b/c the momo hub actually pushes the wheel out from the dash a little further than the factory wheel. I actually think a larger spacer might even be a little more comfortable. If you'e got really long legs take a look as some of the sport momo models with "deep dish design" that push the wheel out further. (No care pkg yet....yours is still in the mail too -thanks!) Oh yea......I forgot to mention the best part..... I picked this "slightly used" wheel up on ebay for $150 shipped.....exactly the wheel I was going to buy new. Sometimes you just get lucky! ![]()

Unfortunately, no. The spacer and hub were purchased separately.
