Shock(ing) Questions

I have a 71t with all the S suspension stuff. I drive it on the street daily and use it for track driving and autocross every now and then. I need new shocks. Some say Bilsteins some say Koni. Some say neither. I have run Konis on other cars and love them, plus they seem to last forever. Porsches are different. Let's hear some ideas from those of you who are running these brand shocks on your cars. Thanks, Alex

Well when my car (73t) was up and running it was equiped with stock torsion bars and upgraded bilstein shocks, i think they are the ones that are stiffer than the sport versions, well at least this is what the previous owner told me. this cars runs firm might i say washboard stiff. much harsher than my z-28. you might like the adjustablility of the koni's. just my opinion.

What kind of struts do you have? From what I recall, you have a choice in inserts with the Boge and Koni struts, but if you have Bilstein struts you need to use Bilstein inserts due to their different construction.

I have Bilstein HD's (Heavy Duty) on my 70 Targa and am extremely happy with the control, and they are not excessively stiff for street use. The Sports are recommended for autox/track use and probably fine for street cars too if you don't mind a harsher ride. Beyond that, there are race/rally valved versions but they are extremely stiff.

Good luck,
Chris C.
