I finaly settled down enough to post pics of my 88 carrera in critical condition. I made the mistake of letting a poor driver borrow my baby, now look at this mess!!!

LET THIS BE A REMINDER.... MAKE SURE YOU KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THE DRIVING HISTORY OF ANYONE YOU LET TOUCH YOUR BABY....!!!! When the legal issues settle down, I will explain in detail. For now it looks like I will be stuck with the tab.

Please take a look at these pics. and determine if it is worth fixing and also how much would this damage cost me. I will also be looking for used parts if I choose to repair it. All help would be appreciated...

Ohh yeah... I was pissed.. He immediatly wrote me a check of his entire savings for 4,000.00.. still not enough!!

I was told he is very lucky and also the car is very tough.. he lost it going over 100 mph.. spun 2 times then hit the guard rail.. I am glad he didnt die..

I'm sure there are experienced bodymen eyeing this disaster, and I'll defer to their opinons, but why don't you take it to a few body shops for first hand estimates--they're usually free--and they can also see if there is possible bending of the unibody. From there, it would be easier to decide if repair was worth it. From the shots though, it looks like a lot of labor regardless of the parts you pick up. Sorry to see such a sad situation, you have lots of sympathy from this board. Good luck.

front bumper smile $50
right front bumper extension spacer and accordion rubber $20
door- usually around $350-500 complete
mirror- see door
top mechanism parts? it appears to be bowed in
right rear qtr panel- usually around $200-350
oil tank- $150
rear deck lid- $200
tail lamp assy- $100

would like to see more pics of the inner jams. and pics of the driver side door open and closed. You need ot make sure the chassis is not twisted

is the rear wheel damaged in any way? front wheel? could indicate suspension repairs needed as well.

all the external stuff is available at prices above (with exception of the top parts- need to see what is broken there)

That said, your vehicle has alot of sheet metal damage and I cannot tell if the unibody has been damaged. Based on the damages per the limited photos it could be a total. My suggestion is to have good body shop write a repair estimate sheet and see where you are. ESTIMATING IS NOT A PERFECT SCIENCE but will give you a reference point. Repair supplements are a fact of life. Consider this if you must repair the vehicle out of pocket.

Does your p-car have collision/comprehensive coverage? (not sure of the accident facts...looks like the car hit a speeding guardrail) This might be a good time to turn in an insurance claim and learn from this ordeal. If you do not have collision, did the driver of your vehicle have collision on one of his/her own vehicles?

Insurance law varies from state to state. A solid insurance premise is that insurance follows the vehicle then the driver. If you do not have collision/comp and the driver of your vehicle does, it is very possible you can present a claim for your damages to his carrier as an excess collision claim. (similar premise as if you damaged a rental vehicle).

For those who are reading this remember: when you loan out your car you also loan out your insurance policy.

What kind of "friends" do you people have?

I don't know anybody among my reasonable circle of friends and good acquaintances who I won't allow to drive my SC track car (and a number of them have). My wife drives it. (Admittedly she just did the Baja 1000 as a navigator in a Hummer.) My daughter drives it. (She's faster than I am.) My friend Jim Catalano's 16-year-old son Sam drives it. (I suspect in a couple of years he'll be faster too.) Several people on this board have shown up in my driveway and I've tossed them the keys. Jeez!

I am pulling the doors off my 70t to replace with fiberglass I will also have a set of doors off a 912 in a week. if anything of these will fit your car I will give you one, you pay the shipping. maybe you could transfer the interior bits, I dont know if it will work, someone else might, But I thought I would help lessen the pain if possible.

My opinion if that the car is not a total, but I would follow TRE's advice and look for concealed damage before feeling confident. Any smackup involving those speeds can produce significant damage. OTOH, sometimes you get a break.

Obviously not the kind of break you were looking for. Very sorry about this. I wrecked a friend's car many (40) years ago, and I paid it off entirely by selling my car. I lost a lot in that deal, respect of many amongst other things. I seldom drive other's cars to this day.

xclaim, I just noticed you were in bowie, Im not to far away either so in addition to parts i can assist with, Ill be happy to led a wrench or two to assist in the rebuild. Where did the accident take place?

The crash happened on 495 between Central ave and Hwy 4 exit. Wow... what can I say.. What a good group. bbaer6676, I wish the world had more people like you. I will let you know if I need help.
