Lightweight flywheel
Any suggestions on a lightweight flywheel for my 72 911E. I'm looking at a Fidanzo for $319. Any other flywheels options. What about a Patrick Motorsports?

Do you know what a 911 flywheel (say from '70-83) is made of? Somehow I got it into my head that it was cast iron, though one aftermarket kind (see photo) was certainly steel. If it is cast iron, does that in any way hinder carving it up RSR style? You can't take a whole lot off, but what you do comes mostly from the important outer part. Walt Fricke |

I don't know what the flywheels are made of. I've had good luck going with turning/ lightening. Ray Litz of Competition Engineering used to offer the service, and he did my original on the 73, then for the second rebuild, I had a nos turned locally. something like 4-6 lbs came off IIRC.

at the time (1986) the reconditioning plus lightening of the original fw was $60 at Competition Engineering.
second rebuild (1999) was $115 for work done by a local speed shop.
