Fan noise when turning left?!?
Here's a weird one - sometimes when I turn my steering wheel to the left, I hear a high-pitched whine coming from the climate control fan. When I turn up the fan, the noise stops and I'm convinced that it isn't simply becoming masked although I can't figure out why or how the steering wheel could be related to the fan. Any ideas?

Does this happen while you are stopped? My guess (wild guess) would be that as you turn, the centrifical force is changing the load on the fan bearings just enough to cause them to squeel. OK, it was just a guess.

It seem to happen when stopped too. Logical guess though.

the load on the fan busing idea sound right to me, too, unless it does this while stopped. The fan will have a washer or two on the shaft, near the front bushing, for the purpose of setting the "end play." Put another little washer in there.
Oh, and grease or graphite the bushing while you're at it, and probably triple the remaining life on that motor. ------------------ '83 SC [This message has been edited by Superman (edited 10-20-2000).] |
