Clear Turn Signals on 993

I know guys have replaced the amber turn signals on their 993s.

After listening around I was told there is a required mod in order to install the clear turn signals.

Is there anyone that can confirm or deny that. I thought I would just be able to replace the lights, but now i am not so sure.

If anyone could shed any light on that I'd appreciate it.

Thanks and a happy New Year!

Derek

There are two variables, color and US vs Euro (ROW) bumper. To use the Euro style marker lights, you have to remove the bumperettes and fill-in the resulting hole. Or find a US spec clear lens (and replace the bulb with an amber one) and it should be plug and play.

Thanks Don,

Ya I am sure it is a US car from Palo Alto, Ca with a US bumper. Do you know who sells Clear turn signals for US bumpers?

Thanks Derek

Thanks Larry,

I called Automotion and they say it "should" be an exact switch. Funny that Pelican mentioned a mod was required....?

Thanks for the info though - I may do a little more research to make sure it fits.

Thanks,

derek

North American bumper cars use a shorter lense because of the little black bumperettes. ROW cars use a long lense that wraps around to the foglight lense.
Porsche only made clear lenses for the ROW cars, which had no bumperettes.
So, any short clear lense that I have seen is a clear ROW lense that has been shortened and sealed.
I can't recall which vendor i purchased mine from, but they were obviously modified long lenses, sealed with clear silicon.
Maybe someone took the time and trouble (and $$) to make molds to cast short clear lenses- but i haven't seen/heard about them at this point.

Hey Max,
Thanks for that. But just to clarify. Since this is a US car, not a european modified version, this means it does not have the bumperettes, is that correct? Does that mean I just have the ROW bumper.

Sorry if I sound ignorant about these bumper issues I am just trying to understand what my stock 993 would have. I know the turn signals wrap a little towards the fog lights.

It appears to me this "little" project is turning into quite the ordeal, but I appreciate all the info you can provide as I have been getting contradicting info from the vendors.

Thanks
Derek

Derek - does your car have the front Bumperettes or not? Clear lenses are available for cars with or w/o bumperettes.

The bumperette separates the fog from the turn signal. I'll find you a picture...

Here's a US standard bumper with bumperettes between the fog and a clear turn signal:

And with the bumperette removed and a long clear turn signal:

(and the fog was replaced with a combo brake duct/driving light.)

Thanks Don,

Yes I am sure I have the standard US bumper with the bumperettes.

Thanks for the pix and the clarification - I was going out of my mind.

Greatly appreciated,
Derek

What color is your car? This seems to be a common modification but, for me at least, it seemed like a bit of cash for the benefit. On the other hand, if you have $200 burning a hole in your pocket...
