I (finally) found time to do my annual service on the SC. This included changing the filters, oil, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and adjusting the valves. While things were apart I also did some house cleaning. Total time was about 7 hours, cost for parts about $110, having a sweet running car for another year, priceless!!! While adjusting the valves, I found that only the #3 and #6 exhausts needed adjusting (too tight) and the #5 intake was (just barely) too loose.
Was the time it took (7 hours) about average for the job? Just curious. Happy New Year to all !

Fred,
It always feels good to spend quality time with your baby...especially when it goes smoothly and leads to a certain peace-of-mind. A Zen kind of thing. Happy New Year, Mike

7 hours of labor for someone that only does this once a year is an average time. Not too fast, not too slow. You probably spent more time doing these tasks than a trained professional but your redemption comes from knowing that everything was done correctly.

Also the confidence knowing that should something mechanical befall the car (particularly while out on a drive), you have an idea of how things work back there, and might not have to call for a flatbed right away.

Good, satisfying work.
I would say you were fast. I got stuck with a few items, particularly certain plugs were giving me trouble. The actual valve adjust (after gaining access) took only half an hour. Two or three exhaust valves needing adjusting. Time and money well spent.

Very satisfying work. I know I really enjoyed it, and enjoyed the help from KC and Daniel (and Jim stopping by to give a hand). I'm pretty certain it will go much smoother the next time. It took a while for me to get a feel for the valves, as it had been at least 15 years since I had adjusted valves. I also had a problem with one of the plugs and it took the most time. I also installed a Fabspeed pre-muffler at the same time.
If all goes well, I'll install an M&K at the next 'service'. Later, Mike
