Cyclops brake light fix?

I've got a cyclops third brake light sitting high above the tail that is very loose - hanging on by a thread. Does not tip forward but can easily be tipped back towards the rear window. Bolts are tight leading me to fear something is broken. I haven't taken anything apart yet but thought I see what ideas are out here first.

Anyone got any experience with this problem or any repair ideas. Trying to avoid a $235 replacement for a very overpriced part? I like the look of it so a simple delete is not an option.

Thanks!

In an era when rear-enders caused by distracted morons are the single biggest cause of accidents--we've already lost one entire Boxster to a guy disciplining his kids in the back seat--there's more to like about a CHMSL than just the look of it...

We replaced this on my brothers 87 coupe. These are very cheaply made and most likes the plastic that is holding the bolts is cracked or stripped. Open the trunk and remove the bolts to check. I quick fix is to use some epoxy and retap with a screw.

broke mine--top was down and cover got hung up and snapped it. replacement is mucho bucks, so I lifted the broken part, filled the cavity with a high quality silicone adhesive, strapped it back in place with small bungee cord for 2 days. Its still holding and is tight.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does CHMSL stand for?

Center High-Mounted Stop Light, which is what they're officially called by geeks in the industry. Pronounced "Chim-sul." Me, I've never heard the term "Cyclops light..."

Just following up. I was able to determine that the plastic housing that the fastening bolts screw go into had broken. PO had epoxied rather poorly and it did not hold. I was unable to unscrew them so I decided to reglue using gorilla glue b/c it expands as it cures vs other glues that tend to run out before hardening. Held down with bungee cord overnight. It's all good this morning!
