Alternator light flashing?

I am working on a 71 911T that has an alternator light that blinks the whole time the car is on. Owners manuel says "flickering alternator light can mean loose fan belt (it s not) or bad voltage regulator". Does this year have an external voltage regulator? Any other trouble shooting ideas?

Yes, it has an external regulator over on the relay/fuse/CDI-unit 'console' on the left side of the engine compartment ... bolted to the fender inner panel.

A flickering alternator light can be caused by loose ground straps, from body to transaxle, for example ... and also by bad brushes inside the alternator.
