Original Tool Kit / Spark Plug Tools?

Does anyone know of a source for purchasing an original tool kit (or portions thereof). Actually what I am really looking for are the spark plug removal tools that come with the kit. I read in an earlier thread these are the best thing for removing spark plugs. Any (other?) suggestions? I have a '72 T.

Sure any 3/4" sparkplug socket with about a 3" extension. Just make sure the socket has the rubber piece inside to grip the sparkplug so you can extract it out of the valve cover after you unscrew it.

The earlier thread I spoke of ("removal of the freaking spark plugs" 02-23-00) stated the a 3" extension wasn't long enough and that a 13/16" socket was the standard...I'M CONFUSED(?). Please help!

I got a nice spark plug socket from Stoddard, it wan't cheap (~$30) but it works great with a ratchet & short extension.

If you really want a factory toolkit, bring money! They are out there (rarely) but $250-300 is about where they start, if complete.

The size is 13/16 (actually 21mm). The factory tool I have is marked "Klein 21 W. Germany". You also need a 10mm allen wrench to break the sparkplug loose and for the final tightening. This tool has a knurled knob at the top for turning the tool. The overall length is about 5 1/2 inches. It is THE best tool to use for sparkplug removal. I bought mine several years ago from a Porsche wrecking yard. I believe the Porsche P/N is 477 012 203

I agree with Charlie.... the actual porsche tool has a built in universal joint encircled by a spring that allows you to get the darn plug unplugged.... A plain universal joint will flop around & frustrate the heck out of you. These things are the right tool for the job.

This is the tool I used to remove and replace my spark plugs, along with the allen wrench to torque them. It's absolutely perfect for the job.

And to think I'd been using it to spin my lugnuts on and off.

Just in case anyone is interested, I had fun trying to find a spark plug wrench for a while back too.

Happiness arrived in the form of a Hazet plug spanner seemingly designed solely for 911's- universal joint and all- for the princely sum of US $9.

It was found hiding in a corner of a 2nd hand tool store, where presumably few Porsche nutters venture into, and was promptly added to my tool collection- no questions asked!

After some ridiculous learning process for a spark plug change, I highly recommend a special Hazet tool, Number is 5220 or so.
It's an expandable wrench extension, which makes the job really easy!
Yesterday evening, while working on the heater hoses, I replaced the first 3 plugs on the left side within 10 minutes.
The right side is a bit more difficult as I have an AC compressor, but last year it took me not more than 30 min.

Mercifully my car came with the tool kit when I bought it a year ago. At first I tried to use my regular plug socket. It worked okay until I got to #6. I'm lucky I didn't have to remove the engine to complete the job. the park plug came out, but the tool would not get around the corner by the oil cooler with the spark plug in it.

Since then I have used the factory tool, described and lauded above, and it is a perfect example of simple, effective German engineering. The thing works perfectly.

Appear that there are several different tool bags:
-Europe version
-USA without California
-USA California
---and 3 other tool bags identified only by part#

I found the infamous Porsche plug wrench in my son's 944 tool bag. Did this come in the 44's too. Don't seem to need the extra flex to get to the 944 plugs. Maybe he will let me borrow it, if I promise to return it. He always puts my tools away.....somewhere.
