I realize this is a thread resurrection of sorts, but I solved my alignment difficulty differently, with good results.

I stuck one end of the bar into the bearing, left the other sticking out into space like the instructions say. I kept twisting it back & forth while moving it around until it twisted freely. Then I just sighted through the hollow bar at the bearing on the other side. Through sheer luck, the bearing as viewed through the hollow bar is almost exactly the size of the hole in the bar, so it's easy to see if it is centered. If the alignment is correct, it will be exactly centered. If not, it's obvious which direction to bend it. I bent it while looking through the bar so I could gage how far I was moving things.

Then, repeat on the other side.
