Adding an Intercooler (only)

Having seen a few used ones for sale real cheap on ebay but not being particularly knowledgeable about intercoolers (but guessing what they do) --- I wonder if there would be any benefit in sticking one (and only that --- no Turbo or anything else) on my 3.0 SC... it's got this wing on the back and there's that big empty cavity that just begs to have something stuck in there... hmmm... course then I'd have to pay attention to the cooler for the A/C --- but...? Any thoughts?

Tog, an intercooler wouldn't do you any good without a turbocharger. The intercooler's function is to cool the pressurized air coming off the turbo, as when air is compressed, it heats.

Ah ha!

Thought it might be useful in cooling uncompressed air (the normal pressure) since I'm aware you'd get a little help with the cooler air (denser and all that). Sounds like it wouldn't cool it enough to make the extra weight worth it.

Leland... actually, I was gonna do that along with hydraulics to make it go up and down, fringe from the Targa top in the windows, fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror, and a plastic Jesus on the dash! Whadda think --- maybe I could get a "triple-lamer" from you! Chuckle

Or maybe I could get a boom-boom box and play digitized sounds of an NHRA fuel-burning funny car at 100dbs that changes frequency with my engine revs as I drive along!

I've been stuck in re-doing Porsches the "right way" for 20+ years and it's been getting old --- now you really gave me some new ideas... ha ha ...ah, the possibilities...!

I REALLY hope you were just kidding. If you were actually gonna put an intercooler on a NA car then...
