hello there,
coming from the mother country of (nearly) all porsches, i have to make you a big compliment. the quality and quantity of this forum is by far the best i have found within some month´s research. in general the american porsche scene seems to be much more organized than it is in germany which one would not expect when diving down into the porsche world. after more than 20 classic cars i ended up with porsches, i .e. bought a carrera 3,2, 1989 conv. last summer, 10.000 km of endless fun in 6 month. as i wanted always to restore a classic car by myself the choice was now easy. sooner than expected i found an untouched 911 T having been first registered in san francisco 1st of february 1971. in the meantime the car is fully stripped and i am considering different styles of what the will be in the future. besides technical aspects, my first question relates to the history of the car. i bought the car at a dealer in germany who did not care to much about history, although the quality of it is excellent, no welding to be done. so the only thing i have is the californian title (due until 03-2007) of the last owner.is there a chance to track (part) of the history of the car. do some us-porsche clubs keep a register of vin-numbers + history of the cars? any other chance ?. thank you for any hint.

You could use CarFax . It will give you all the registration history of the car as long as it was in the US. I believe they charge $29 for a month subscription but you may find someone here with a current subscription that may run it for you.

Good idea to carfax,
but carfax has no info on pre-1981 cars. Advent of 17 number VIN's was 81 ... and martin needs info on 71 VIN.

You can get at least some of its California history from our Department of Motor Vehicles. See this thread.
Beautiful cars, by the way.

Welcome !!
Good to see yet another European on the board (I seem to say that a lot lately). What lovely cars. Particularly the old girl. Classic!
