stick shift rattles

Hi All

I was enjoying one of my first extended drives in my car (after a 12 month left hand drive to right hand drive conversion project) and all was well, no creaks or rattles, all electricals working fine.......

But

Is the stick shift supposed to rattle noisily? For instance, when you stop at a set of traffic lights and select neutral. As you moove the stick from side to side it "clacks"noisily in the gate.

I also noticed that it can resonate or vibrate in some rev ranges and the rattle comes from the same area.

Is this common for a 1989 ROW 3.2 G50 box?

By the way, the shifter wasn't touched during the conversion.

Time to pull it out and replace the bushings and o-rings. Search for a thread about "G-50 shift tower" and you'll find the part numbers you'll need.

Nice to hear that you've got your car on the road - congratulations!

Mine has started resonating a little at idle, but there is definitely no rattling. Bushings sound like the likely culprit.

there is an article in Excellence about how to sound proof the G50 linkage -- try a search on their web site - it was years ago

Check this also

Check that transmission mounting nuts are secure.

Much discussion about G50 NVH [noise, vibration, & harshness] issues in the cabin and via the shifter in Excellence over the years, and in the technical summary issues as well!
