Show me your Cibie hood mounted lights

May have access to an NOS set and am considering them for the E.

What's it gonna look like?

Chuck out here in AZ just got a set of them and they look excellent! Can be pricey though. I want to find a set for the front of my backdated car that mounts thorough the horn grills but like yours are pricey.

refer to my "and someone said let there be light!" thread. pod from dave b @ TRE. (4) count 'em hella 4000 compacts along with (2) hella 550's and replaced crap h-5's w/hella h-4's.

advantage: ridgid mount.....no bounce on beams. these lights are not moving one iota!

pod removes w/4 dzus fasteners to replace bulbs/maint.

used crap hood, sanded and shot black. saved OEM hood for show.

wiring: quick disconnects. hella harness (2)

disadvantage: must have 2-3 people to add or remove hood. not a single handed operation. remove hood allens and then realign. not a big deal but its not 5 minutes on or off.

Thanks Everyone, good stuff. Eric's is especially helpful as I was concerned about mixing yellow H1's with white Cibie's. Looks great!

Good thread Charles, thanks for the reference. I've found you can do hoods and decklids with just one person if you have an old comforter on the cowl. May try my hand at welding up a centerfill tank and cutting the hood too when I take on this project.

I need a bright idea

I have a set of rally lights that are the larger dia because i wanted 100w/ea instead of the 50w bulbs. They are also fat.

it's not supposed to be beautiful like the above pics as i want it removed after big rides. I would have loved them in last Nov's ride to the Dragon Tail meet deep into the Smokies but I couldn't come up with the right idea to mount them.

Anyway.. this coming early May I'm riding south to pick up member JD in Ashville w/'88 and then were gonna ride 2 911s 10,000mi west of the Mississippi.

I need a strong way of mounting them that's temporary. I haven't figured out a way to mount them. I think a hole in the top bumper and a black plug later after removal.

I need a bracket of sorts so i can open the Lid.
Or i'll just drill a hole directly under the bumper if I have to. I want them on top to light mountain roads better.

huh?

anylight more than OEM is a GOOD THANG! since we are about getting ready to do wiring have been talking to chris at HELLA INC. real good guy w/good ideas. we are going to use (2) hella lighted(red)switches. they will be mounted btwn driver and co-pilot so BOTH can access quickly. these are different from what come normally in wiring kits. these switches are traditional push/pull. unlike rotate to right for on unilluminated or their toggle design. bigger knob to hit with your hand in event of oncoming traffic .
