Early 911 Mystery Door Pockets?

I am a newbie here, but was hoping someone could help me. I just purchased a 1970 911e that needs the fold out door pockets. I just
saw this car on ebay, and I am wondering what these door pockets came off of? I assume these were not stock for this year, but they do not look like the later ones either. Any ideas?

They are aftermarket. I don't know the brand and I don't believe they are available anymore. Nice alternative though.

They used to be available from Original Fit Interiors in vinyl, carpet, or plain fiberglass. Maybe they still are?

I had them on my first 911:

I just called original fit interiors. They are still available and are $125 untrimmed for the pair, what a deal! I sure am glad I asked.

they are a neat alternative to the expensive map pockets. a pseudo update if you will
But you need to put some sort of block off plate below the bolster. Otherwise your items roll way back out of arms reach !

Did anyone buy and install these door pockets? I am thinking of getting them but I think removing the original pockets will leave holes in the door panels that won't be covered with these replacements.

i would receommend making up a dam out of plastic or aluminum to keep items from rolling back into the door shell and hiding the opening, so the only pocket section would be in front of the door release

Sounds good. But I think that these pockets won't cover the holes from my original front map pockets. Any idea if they will?

I'd love to hear how these map pockets are working out on early cars. Have any of you who recently bought them got them installed? How are they?

Thanks. Ken

I have a pair - haven't reinstalled them from when I had the doors opened up.

The 'dam' Dave (TRE) mentions is needed - but you loose most of the storage space. You can stuff a bunch of maps back towards the rear too.

They are fairly cheap vinyl. I'd say they are a stopgap measure -- we really need somebody to remanf. the originals for a decent price.

I also keep think of putting the 1974- design on my early car - it's a much better design.

Thanks Randy. It's disappointing to hear they are cheap vinyl. I assume they are vinyl covered something -- what are they actually made of?

I agree on the 74 design being better, but a pair of those is about a $500 solution to something that is, for the non-concours crowd, a fairly minor issue.

Thanks again for the response.

Ken

I had an awful experience with Original Fit Interior's door pockets. It took months to get them. When they arrived they were the wrong color. After returning them, the new ones i received had glue on the carpet. I cleaned the glue with lacquer thinner, but I couldn't get them to fit. I gave up and ended up selling them.

I'll never do business with OFI again.

it's some kind of hard shell plastic vinyl -- not a soft vinyl

mine are many years old; he might be using something else now

they're better than nuthin'....
