Bodymen...is this repairable?

Seller shipped my new hood from Canada via truck freight and said it would be "properly packaged to avoid damage". Bonehead wrapped the corners in cardboard then wrapped the hood with shrinkwrap (crate? pallet? what's that?!?). Lo-and-behold, upon arrival, the passenger "corner" was folded over like a potato chip. Sorry for the poor pic (cellphone cam), but is this repairable? I'm not concerned about concourse quality, just need a usable hood.

Fixable - yes but why? It would be cheaper to get another.

P.S. - I notice you are in Calgary. Would you mind running over to BC and kicking seller in the nutz for me?

If you wan tot pay the shipping I will send you my hood. It is rust free but has been used for some paint testing, so it needs to be stripped and painted. Let me know. I promise to have it insured, but let me know how you want it packed as I am not sure how to protect it and a pallet is more than I will do for free!

Cheers

Thanks for the generous offer. I'm more than likely going to have this hood repaired...hopefully someone will tell me it can be done!

I have been looking and looking. All I can see is what looks to be a keyboard, and network cable...

It's actually a digital version of the Rorschach Inkblot Test...tell me the first thing that comes to mind...

Seriously, though, I'll try to get a better pic. However, I'm sure a folded corner on hoods is a common "injury". Are they repairable or junk?

How about having the insurance from the trucking company pay for the damage? Or the seller since he packed the item that way.

How some people think is just plain crazy these days. Just bought some very nice leather suitcases on Ebay. Frigging beyotch put the bag in a plastic trash bag and mailed it to me. What was she thinking, that the post office would treat it gently? Hell, most trash bags do not even make it to the trash can, not to mention halfway across the country.

The hood appears to be shiny black and is in the lower left hand corner with the damaged corner of the hood laying on the keyboard. . . I think.

I only did a cursory inspection at the FedEx Freight location. As the corners were padded, I couldn't see the damage. From what I could see through the shrink-wrap, the hood appeared to be in good condition. Not until I returned to my warehouse and removed all the packaging did I discover the folded corner. I've asked the seller for a partial refund.

Recovering $$$ is not my goal. I just would like to know if this can be fixed or should I toss it. The rest of the hood is in great shape. My existing hood is definitely toast...

Although I can't see the hood in the picture either, I would think this could be fixed. Of course the cost could be beyond what you want to pay for it. Is your car black (using the assumption the hood is)? If you hadn't planned on painting the hood before, you are going to have to now. Good luck and sorry to hear a fellow Canuck screwed you, we are usually so cordial and accomodating. Canadians are getting some bad press on this board lately.

I don't think my situation has anything to do with the seller being Canadian. It has more to do with him being an idiot who thinks wrapping a body panel in Saran wrap is adequate for shipping. Boneheads are universal.

The hood had to be painted anyway, so I'm hoping they can fix the fold while they're at it.

How much are y'all paying for hoods? You're the second person to hint it would be cheaper to buy new...? I only paid $100 for this hood. Most other (used) hoods I've seen are in the $400+ range...

If you had planned on painting the hood anyway I would think that you won't be looking at much more money to get it fixed. I was basing my cost comparison on a hood that you wouldn't have to paint. How far around does the bend go? Is it 90 degrees or has it been folded a complete 180 degrees? If the metal didn't get too stretched it might be possible to bend it back. Some filling and sanding might take care of the rest. Just a thought, I'm not a body man and haven't seen the damage.

I, too, thought it was a photo of somebody's IT center.

If you're not looking for money from a claim, and you only have $100 invested, then you may be best to get another hood. A good body man will charge that much to fix it correctly.

Put the hood on eBay to recoup some of your $.

Filing claims with FedEx is an ordeal, in my experience.
