Carrera tail rubber base needed
I bought a Carrera tail for my 87 and it didn't come with the rubber seal that goes between the tail and the deck lid.
Are these available or do I need to just fab one up? I put a want ad in the classified but I figured this gets more traffic. Thanks Brian

I'd call PelicanParts and ask them... I couldn't see it online, but I didn't look too hard...

You can get them from Pelican or the Porsche dealership (I got mine fomr the dealership only because I was buying some other things too).
I changed mine out (tea top tail) about six months ago. The proper seal will come with double-sided tap on the top and the bottom of the seal. Make sure you fit it to the tail properly (you may need to cut the ends of the seal a little bit because they may overlap) and then remove the tape on the side that will secure to the tail and stick it on. Before you attack the tail to the deck lid, make sure the paint on the engine lid is completely free of debris (if present it will damage the lid's paint and the seal). After the cleaning prep is complete have a friend help you verify the tails fit to the lid. Check to ensure each bolt hole matches up with the tail's prefectly. When that is worked out, remove the bottom portion of the double-sided on the seal and fit the tail to the lid. Screw in each bolt hand tight and then tighten the bolts up completely. It should look great with the new seal installed! Here are some pics of when I did mine: Old gasket had been reused sever times by previous owners or mechanics and caused damage to the engine lid and the wing. The seal also was dry-rotting. Pretty simple. Line it up as you go and remember to clean the mating surface of the with mineral spirits or paint thiner to remove anything that might prevent the tape on the seal from adhering properly. The corners are the trickest part, but go slow with it and it will be easy. Remember to line up the seal's bolt holes with the bolt holes in the tail. Six months later and the seal still looks great! Hope this helps, Matt
