Question Odd questions about 1983 cabrio

Hi, have few questions about 83 cabrio ( restoring ... )

1. Is there a reason why Porsche used black flat paint on top or original red paint inside the cabin:
- floor area, seat rails, tunnel, under dash etc.
Is this some special paint? do I need it or it is ok just to paint with original color (indischrot) ?

2. on my top - is there some seal missing? I can see leftover glue but not sure if I am missing anything. If anyone has part # and photos of missing seal, very appreciate

Thanks,
Stan

I have an unmolested 83 cab and replaced both the dash and windshield a few years ago. I took pictures of the dash area with the pad removed so let me take a look. I don't remember any additional paint, just the factory black with the painters initials in it. As for the seals I'll take a look at that area also. Warren

Warren, thanks for help

About black paint - is this paint has any special meaning? I plan to repaint interior with few coats of red (original color) and after install sound insulation/carpet. Do I need this black, matt paint?

I think the areas that are painted black are to stop the red paint being visible at the edges of the dashboard, carpets at seat rails and back central support for seats.
Otherwise the colour of the car may show at these points.
I would say its just a standard paint.

Stan, here are a few pictures of the dash minus the pad. I don't see any additional coating of any color other than the body color. I'll look at the c top over the weekend regarding your other question. Warren

I have an original '83 and the vinyl on the top is snug against the metal. It may be glued but no way to tell without pulling it out. Anyway, there is no seal or flange. I've never had the dash out but there is black paint visible along the inside interior of the doors.
Good luck with the restoration- John

Here's my 83 Cab. That final is wrapped around and contact cemented to the cardboard/fiberboard stiffer. This is then clipped to the metal front top frame as shown in the second photo.

There is 1 seal but it looks like you have that (photo 3). The main weather seal is attached to the top of the windshield frame.

Thanks for all replies and images
I guess previous owner had some extra seal... (top came from different car but same year).

Anyone knows if 1983 cabrio frame can be used with 993 style one piece top?
