Whats in Your Toolkit????

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if someone could tell me what all the contents of the factory toolkit are for an 1982 911SC (maybe the same for all SC's?). I know that they can no longer be obtained new, and used are hard to come by, so I'm trying to assemble one from scratch. A local used Porsche parts place (www.carquip.com) has tons of Lug wrenches and canvas pouches, but no other components of the kit. Thanks in advance!

Nick.

Try a search on eBay, or contacting Stoddard's. They used to have extensive tools and kits for everything from 356's to 928's in their catalog!

On another note, what happened to all those compressors that came with the car. Everyone that has one around here, the air compressor is missing. I guess they were'nt used much? I do have a full tool kit. I guess I should feel lucky.

Stoddards doesn't have the toolkit or its contents listed, and I've been looking on E-Bay for several months, but the kits are usually from very early cars or incomplete.
Thanks for the replies though!

If you have a kit, whats in it?

Nick.

okay...Ihave the exact car...so I may be able to help...

Looked in 911 authenticity series, but the list was not the samw as my car...I thnk they lumped the sc's together because we definately do not have tow hooks....

so they say:

Bag
Rim Wrench
Screw driver
8&9 mm wrench
10&11 mm wrench
12&13 mm wrench
14&15 mm wrench
17&19 mm wrench
Angular pipe wrench
Pliers
V-belt
Bagt with 5 fuses

What I have:
A Spanner wrench for the cooling fan (maybe that is the rim wrench)
a wrench for the tire lugs
a yellow scredriver handle with a LONG phillips and a shorter flat (but I think there should be more)
pliers
all the wrenches
2 allen wrenches..one is big..the other is long and a rubber ended to pich up the batterey clamp screw once you are done unscrewing it
belt...(I added an AC belt)
5 fuses
Latex gloves (I added)
And a rag(I added, I will replace it with a PORSCHE factory towel when I get some)

hope that helps

Mine also has a crazy winder handle tool for manually opening the sunroof, if necessary. "82SC"s kit sounds like mine otherwise. I recall the long screwdriver thing.

the spanner and the spark plug wrench are the gems of the kit.

What, pray tell, is a "Angular pipe wrench" what does it look like and what is it used for?
I too, would like to put together a tool kit, sure doesn't need to be original.
I want to put together something to use on the occasional desert and mountain trip as well as day to day.
do you carry jumper cables and flares too?
any suggestions appreciated.

This is what I've got for the tool bag contents for 911s thru 1979 (date of the factory manual I'm looking at --- probably the same for 1982):

Appears to be several different tool bags!:
-Europe version
-USA without California
-USA California
-and three others identified only by part#

... I'm guessing that this is the one that might apply to yours =

"USA only --- not California"...

923.721.001.02 = tool bag (and contents of:
901.721.221.00 = wheel wrench
999.195.002.02 = double-end spanner 8x9
999.195.003.02 = double-end spanner 10x11
999.195.007.02 = double-end spanner 12x13
999.195.008.02 = double-end spanner 14x15
999.195.005.02 = double-end spanner 17x19
911.721.705.00 = angular pipe wrench
999.107.003.02 = universal pliers
999.192.013.50 = narrow v-belt
911.721.013.00 = plastic bag with 5 fuses
911.721.702.00 = holdingkey for v-belt pulley
477.012.203 = spark plug wrench
901.721.212.21 = hexagon wrench
911.721.051.00 = towing eye
911.721.107.02 = handle w/ 3 screwdrivers

Hey Superman

What does the Spark plug wrench look like...you got me worried...is it the end with the universal (spring) joint?

I don't think I have that....hmmmm

Also while on the topics of tool kits...I hand scrubbed the inside of my kit...used conditioner and cleaner reserved for my Gucci loafers on the exterior...used mother polishing paste (after polishing my wheels to a BRILLIANT shone) on all the wrenches...sheesh I am crazy...oh at the mother polish makes the wrenches REALLY shiny...mmmm...I think german tools have the dull grey adonized finish...like in the Merc Benz kits...so I am not sure if I am thrilled with the brilliant finish but it does look really cool...my tool kit is perfectly arranged...even the loop with all the stuff is beautifully folded, tucked...hahaha..porsche-psychotic...

My sister has the original tools & kit for her '87 Carrera. Thought I'd change the fan belt for her while in Atlanta last fall. As she has no other real tools to speak of, I availed myself of those precious Porsche wonders.... what a bunch of junk! I know you'll think I'm being blasphemous, but has anyone ever tried using one of those wrenches on a stubborn bolt? The metal's so cheaply alloyed, it will round off before you're able to loosen the bolt. Had to give up the project as the wrenches proved to be unbelievably cheap and unusable. The only parts I've found to be worth it in my '85 Carrera's kit are the spark plug U- joint, allen wrenches, fan holder & lug nut wrench. You can polish the rest all you want for show, but if you're stuck on the road and in need of any real tools to work on the car with, you'd better hope you threw in your Craftsman wrenches. I've replaced the toy tools in my kit with real ones. My apologies to the purists out there, but I think the guy who worked at Porsche and recommended that the car didn't need a battery tray was the same guy who was put in charge of the tool kits.
regards,
jlex.

Excellent remarks jlex! I agree with you that the quality of the stock wrenches leaves a lot to be desired. Open my toolkit and you see nothing but Craftsman wrenches.

The spark plug wrench is a long socket witha spring and a shaft that ends in a nurled puck, a littel bigger thana quarter. This has a hex socket in it so you can put the Allen wrench on it, or use your fingers. I have a fair collection of had tools in my garage. When I change spark plugs I use the tool kit tool because it works much better.

I sheepishly agree that the cast wrenches in the tool kit are...well....they are not reflective of the Porsche approach to materials and workmanship.
