rotor specs
Just seperated the hub and the rotor but forgot to index the passenger side. How badly did I hurt myself here if I'm planning on having the rotors turned?
What is the minimum thickness of the rotor? The wife is leaving town for a couple of days so I should be able to bake the hub and have the smell out of the kitchen by the time she returns! ------------------ Rob Fix '78 SC Targa |

Front or back hubs? Why index? Why bake?

Rob,
Once you get the rotor off the hub, you will find the minimum dimensions lettered on the mounting flange. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

If my "index" you mean mark the rotors so they go on the same lug studs, don't bother. the lathe will change their balance anyway. No problem.
tog: Front hubs. You bake the hub to make it easier to get the new bearing races in. ------------------ '83 SC |

Superman ---
I've never bothered to bake the fronts --- I just use an old bearing race (ground slightly smaller) from previous bearing replacements to tap them in squarely ...... now the rears --- eek ![]() |

thankyou gentlemen;
I have another question regarding that aluminum hub. Is it coated with anything and is it okay to clean with brake cleaner until I get a nice shiny aluminum? Same question regarding the brake caliper? Also when I put the bearing cap back on is there something I can do to make removal easier next time? ------------------ Rob Fix '78 SC Targa |

Rob,
Yes on the spray brake cleaner for hub and caliper! If you make sure the seating area on the hub is very clean, and likewise for the inside of the cap ... clean with Zud to remove any rust. A light coating of moly grease on the inside lip of the cap will make removal easier nex time! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
