vertically challenged...

For the vertically challenged people out there (like myself) what's the best way to raise the seat in order to avoid having to sit on a pillow or phone book? I can't see out well!

how tall are u...if your at least 5 ' 4 I'm sure it cant be that bad? just wondering

maybe a different steering wheel would help

btw its better to sit low in a sports car im my opinion

There is some aftermarket steel bar that fits under the seats. If you look at the seat there are screws at the front and back that bolt the seat to the floor. The bar goes in between.

Remember...if your child is 4'9" or shorter, you MUST strap them into a child's booster seat. That's Oregon State law...

I've got the same "issue" as you do. Solution: Pelican sells a seat elevation kit, I installed the kit and for a mere 75 bucks, it's night and day difference. All you get is a extra 3/4" in height, but all of a sudden you can adjust the seat so you can comfortably reach the wheel, pedals and shifter all at the same time. Before the lift I could only get two out of three at any one time. And don't worry you can't even see them once installed, which seriously cuts down on the BS from your tall friends

Another option may be to get a local upholstery shop to fabricate a cushion and cover it to match the seat. Attaching straps would secure the cushion to the seat bottom. Changing the wiper blade parking position will compliment any of the improvements (covered in Wayne's book..)

Seat elevation kit? Why not just put some lengths of strap steel (available at Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) between the seat mounts and sliders? Drill some holes, use some longer bolts, and voila! All for $10 or less.

use some 1" square tubing, prime and paint and it'll look somewhat factory.

I did this too as I like to sit tall in the seats.

I got a very nice piece from the seatbelt place -- PEP Parts?? It cost $375 - BUT it is safe. Be sure what you get is safe.

Seat Elevation rails, either factory or Home Depot and longer SUITABLE bolts.
OR
Get factory power seats since they adjust height
OR
Go aftermarket seats and mounting kit to get an adjustable mounting bracket.

A funny aside...when here Evren's wife, also vertically challenged, told of being pulled over by an Istanbul cop when she was heavy with their first child. Be really careful about the seat mounting - P AG uses high strength 10.9 metric cap screws for this. NEVER use stuff from the hardware store unless you know to an engineering certainty that it is strong enough.

My seat is bolted into my car with no adjusters. I have an extremely long torso so the seat (racing type) is actually bolted in so it sits below the seat rails. (Had to move the DME too)

Here is where your problem comes in. My wife is 5'4" and can't come close to seeing out of the car or reaching the pedals. She started Auto-Xing last year so I used some plastic bags and 2 part expanding foam and we formed a custom molded seat insert for her. We formed the bottom as one section and the back as a separate piece.

After we had the inserts close to the correct size I put some 3/4" foam padding on the top and she made a cover out of a cheap fleece blanket. (the pattern is a flame job!) Now a driver change is simply putting in the inserts or pulling them out. Works great!

It does exist Katie however, you don't have to go that route. The flat stock spacer does work but, take the advice to find the right grade of hardware. If not you are increasing the chance of the bolts shearing. I'll be installing spacers between the brackets and the bottom of my Scheel buckets to get a little more umph.

Don't worry Randy, my mom and I was born, & raised and she at least will probably die in the sticks of Illinois. Besides, we gots enough hick in us that we won't set off the border sensors. Those things are calibrated for SoCal anyway

I can travel in Oregon cause I just pass at 5 zero and one half Can't bring either of my sisters either. My dad can come though!

At some point, Porsche shipped some of the cars (perhaps 924s or 944s) with little aluminum spacers under the sliding rails. Not sure if they were an option or what.

They are 1/2 inch high, and bolt in between the rails (manual or electric) and the floor. They can also be stacked.

I have a bunch of them taking up space in my garage. I bought them from Partsheaven years go-- they had bins and bins of them. I have used them for various seat mounting situations in 944s, 951, and in my 911 race car. (That's my wife driving it in the pic below at Laguna Seca-- the only woman to ever get top time of day at one of our PCA time trials).

Anyway, you must use proper grade bolts (metric 8.8 at least), with enough length for proper engagement.

Here's what I did

I'm 5'11" and the seats I have in my car positioned me way too low. My arm was angled upward and was uncomfortable if I tried to rest it on the door with the window down. I also felt like I had to sit straight up to see well over the dash/hood.

I bought 6 ft of 1" square aluminum stock from a place that sold metals online - cost about $25 bucks shipped.

Lined them up to the seat sliders, marked and drilled. Bought some longer bolts and re-mounted.

One of the better low cost improvements I have made to the car that really affected the driving comfort.
