How do you shave your........pads?

Just in the process of fitting 964 calipers to my 3.2 and I think I will have to shave the pads just a wee bit.

How have others shaved their pads and how did you maintain a parallel front and back face?

Bump... I'm interested in this type of info as well.

I'm running 993 calipers over 930 rotors and I believe the rears need to be shaved a bit to fit over the rotor.

I used 4 wood screws per pad and mounted the pads upside down to piece of plywood. I then used a wood screw that was screwed in between the pads screwed in so the head was at the target thickness (I measured the pads and marked them first)

Then used a belt sander - 100 grit as level as possible - when I started hitting the top of my set screw - I'd taken enough off.

993 brakes - 930 rotors

DOn't worry too much about geting them absolute parallel - Your brake rotors will take care of that in no time...

How much (mm) did you shave from a new rear brake pads to fit into the 930 rotor/993 caliper combo? Thanks.

Pretty sure it was 2mm

leads me onto another question:

How much gap is needed between pad and disc? I have done some measuring and it seems I have 1.5mm spare - is this enough, if not how much shall I trim?

Only a fraction of that Jev. 1.5mm should be plenty as the pads should snugged up pretty close to the disc.

I was at a race at Pocono in my GT3 cup and needed to do that. My mechanic told me to rub them on the pavement. It worked perfectly, just rub them on some pavement that you don't care about, does not take long and requires no tools.
