I recall seeing Jack's garage 7 years ago on a visit to the States before its restoration and thinking of how much potential it had if only he'd clean it out ;)

I'll play. I own an old inner suburban house (by Australian standards) referred to as a "high-set" which is built on very tall pillars to allow underfloor airflow to keep the place cool. In modern times we've got A/C now, so I built it in under, replaced the pillars with big RSJ beams and poured a slab. My work was throwing out a laboratory which I managed to retrieve cupboard by cupboard with my little box trailer...

The beams are pretty cool aesthetic John! I like what you have done! It is fun to see where you are restoring your car and have some context to your space. :D
Is that an alley behind your house or just backyard?

Oh, and I just noticed the 'can' garage door! Very cool. Another alternate to not killing the lights or space when the door is open =)

Bryan, it's my very small backyard :) Space/price premium$ in suburban Australia... Essentially these old places were built before cars, so re-engineering to get off-street parking normally means easements between neighbours and sacrificing yards :( What I've created is actually pretty unusual...

You can probably get a picture of the other difficulties I've had when needing to make noise with a grinder etc... Lots of bottles of good red wine to the neighbours ;)

I'm pleased with the space I created and like Jack, a lot of stuff is second hand such as the roller (can) door, light fittings, lumber, and the bench. Once my resto is done I'll turn my head back to using the space some more. We've got a 3 year old now and I have a big-arse Scaletrix slot car set to dust off :D

Lab cabinets kick A$$. I have been looking for some myself.

I like to buy the large lateral filing cabinets. These are usually 18" deep with full drawers. Perfect for parts and tools. They can be found for $20-30 a piece if you shop carefully.
