Yes. They made a few a couple of years back for me and another guy. I think they were $75 each. If you are interested in getting one, email me at olsenjack (at) gmail.com, and I'll see if I can't dig up the old information.

Looks good so far. Don't let your fear of welding force you into fiberglassing those mirror holes. It would be a shame.

Are you planning doing full rear glass qtrs or just buying the flares?

I promise to try the welding first for the holes... just a bit afraid since I never done welding on a door... so you can understand being a bit afraid. I need to find a piece of similar material and test my skills before I tackle the door.

All I have seen so far are the full FG qtr panels. So that is what I was going to install.

Between the knee surgery (which I can say today that I now feel great!!), taking the family on a 5 week vacation (well... 3 week vacation and 2 weeks working remotely), now a business trip to Munich, Germany... the project is just sitting pretty in the garage  ...

The idea of just going RS instead and save some time is starting to cross my mind... I better order the qtr panels to avoid going back...

I hope to do something this week before heading out to Germany... I hope... :(

Well... with the knee all better now and vacation over... even if work is high... I will start working on the car again.

Will remove all the rear parts tonight. Rear qtr panels and bumper ordered. I went with GT Racing again... I just like how responsive Hank is. I hope to have better luck with the fitment of those. The front really took some work. But since I have no prior experience I am not sure if it was normal effort or not... anyway... back to working the car!!

oregonmon 09-26-2007 09:40 AM

Just read your whole thread and can't wait to see more progress. Keep up the great work!!!

A few photos... not much... just removed the rear bumper... the next part is where the real commitment comes to play... once I cut that metal there is no way back....

A model I got while in the Porsche museum... positive I could have found that cheaper somewhere else...

hey Wachuko,

your ramps to prep the raise for your floor lift is awesome!!

what lift brand is that?
how high does it lift?
where can one buy that lift?
how much do they cost?
if you had to do it all over again, would you buy one again?

thanks again and keep the project rollin! Your doing a great job!!! Makes me think of doing the same... I'll see how much work yours takes first though...I dont know if I could get this motivated and nerve up to cut my fenders... I guess one has to keep thinking of the end result and what a result an RSR would be!! Boy how I would love to have an RSR replica!!

If you have the ceiling height go with a two-post asymmetric lift... my garage does not have the necessary height for one so I had to go with the next best option.

Mine is a Bendpak 6000 LBS PORTABLE MID RISE LIFT - MD-6XP

Nevermind the Portable in the description... once this puppy is in place you are not going to want to move it...

Yes, same one. SmileWavy

Here is the thread in Rennlist of when I bought it: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=327043

Paid 9k for it.

I have to be honest... I was looking for a project car to turn into the car in the first post... when I found this one, for a few days after I bought it I thought of leaving it alone... looked to good to mess up... wife and father-in-law kept telling me to leave it alone... I need to make sure I finish this project and do it well or I will be kicking myself (for messing up a nice car) for many many years...

That's why I mainly do bolt-on stuff. No welding of the doors for me. 964 "aero" mirrors look as good as those do in my book. But, that's my book, not yours. You are doing a big job and it looks to be turning out very nicely.

I'll keep checking your progress. Meanwhile, keep up the good work.

I wish I could... That is one of my dreams, building a custom home with a decent 40'x60' workshop... :D maybe someday... For now this three-car garage will have to do... I just move them out when working on the car... and a friend is kind enough to let me store one of the cars in his garage when the space is needed for long periods of time...

When we got this house I had them add 2' to the garage to allow for the closet and working bench you see in the back. What I forgot to ask for was a higher ceiling
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/splat.gif

That would have allowed me to put in a two-post lift... nothing I can do now...

PcarPhil 10-04-2007 05:04 AM

Man this is an interesting thread! Those rear flares make my 11" turbo flares look tiny...

Forgive me if you've already answered this but what are you planning on running for wheels/tires and what do you have planned for an engine?

Keep up the progress updates!

I am scare sh#@$%less on the amount of cutting that is required for the rear panels... time to search in the folder for those photos of others who have done it... I don't want to cut more than is needed and even will try to leave as much original metal as possible...

from the initial looks of the FG panels it looks like I have to remove the rear side glass and cut into the window frame  I don't think I will do that.. I rather cut the FG to where it touches the lower part of the window side and glue it there...

I need to do my homework now before I make the first cut...

Search for wheels here:

RSR with vented flairs-What wheels are you using??

Looks like I will end up with something like these:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1171984015.jpg

Engine: not too many changes... only plan to put some PMO 46 carbs to give it a better look... when the time comes, a rebuild but not planning on making any changes from the stock components unless is for reliability reasons...

You're probably already aware of this but please keep in mind:

-increased overall wheel/tire weight that is unsprung weight.
-increased overall tire diameter and it's affect on gearing.

I believe the car in the pic above has a 3.6 engine which of course helps overcome the issues mentioned above! Those big meats might be a bit much for a stock 3.0 and stock 915 trans.

Edit: Regardless...you've got a very cool project in the works...

A few weeks back I started to hear like the fan was touching the housing... I thought it was the alternator bearings that had gone bad. I removed everything and took the alternator to a repair shop... bearings were fine. After looking again at the fan housing I noticed several cracks... rather than trying to fix those (read a few post here that welding the magnesium housing was going to be a pita) I decided to order a new one.

Porsche no longer makes the housing so I ended up buying a replacement. These come in Aluminum now...

BTW, I will be soooo happy when I remove all that CIS stuff and replace it with a beautiful set of PMO carburetors... but first I need to finish all the body work, and get the wheels/tire combo...

You can see one of the cracks it in this photo, in the lower left side...

http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/alt_reb7.jpg

I had to do the new fan housing, new 11 Blade Alternator Fan (also in aluminum), and new 90amp alternator (because I needed the updated alternator to work with all the other parts, housing is for an 84 and requires this alternator)... I also ordered the nice looking strap from Rennline (via Pelican Parts) to go with the changes.

Now I only need to decide what color I will paint them (maybe best to powdercoat them since there are all new.... hummm...)

So... I have a fine working alternator if anyone is in need for one...

When do we move past "Part 1 - The Discovery"??

I move for starting Part 2!

Careful with the oversized bodywork and flares and large wheels combining that with limited power to back it up. Don't want to be "all show and no go".

Cool project.

Since I posted the alternator stuff on this one... all other body updates will be done in the second thread started...

Used Tractor Supply paint... very thick/strong paint...

Nothing seems to be straight forward... rear bolts on the new alternator are different... so now I have to go out and get the correct size nuts...
