Detering Thieves
How do you do it? I have to park my 911SC outside in the city. How do you protect yours from potential automotive thieves? Do you use the Club or a battery cut-off switch? Something else?

Insure it and forget about it....if they want it, they'll get it. Otherwise park in a secured lot or drive a Yugo.

layer many kill switches and put a sign up saying your radio has already been stolen.

A removeable steeering wheel setup is about $120, and also makes getting in and out of the car easier.

I prefer and use a kill switch and also cover my car. I have only street parking at my current residence. I think kill switches are great...when was the last time you looked at a car with an alarm blaring in a parking lot...now, when was the last time you heard a car cranking and cranking and cranking in a parking lot and looked over there to see what poor souls car wouldn't start? Kill switches are silent and you can interupt a number of the cars systems (fuel pump, ignition, etc).
Of course, you could take the coil wire with you...then, there's insurance Cooper

True story...
In the early 70's my father worked in a tough inner city Sydney, Australia where crime was quite high at the time. Dad kept his 5' pet carpet python in the car It was ideal, the snake loved the warm glasshouse effect of the car's interior during the day and never felt the need to leave; and potential car thieves were detered from sharing the car with "Casper".

I knew a guy that would display a magnetic sign on his van just before pulling up to a parking space.

I would think that putting a cover on a car would yell "Here's something really special, why not steal it?"

Google is our friend:

The club works well if you use it, if they want your car they will get it. but having a club usually will be enough hassle that they will steal the car next to it instead of yours. no theft deterrent will keep a thief with a tow truck from taking your car. if you have LOJAC you will get it back. even if they attempt to put it in a metal shipping container. My pick up has been stolen 2 times both times the wife left the club off. both times they found it within a couple hours. the gps tracking systems available do not work when it gets put in a building or in a metal shipping container on it's way to south America. they also have lojac receivers at the port. I live just south of Miami and there is a pretty good shortage of 4 wheel drives in South America, so pickups and SUV's get stolen a lot. Older Porsche's don't get bothered much. car thieves down here do not usually steal cars for joyriding any more due to being caught in the car if it has lo jack or some other theft recovery system. so usually they drive it a couple miles then put it in a parking lot. come back a couple days later if it's still there it goes to the port or a chop shop. if it's not there then it had lojac and cops have already recovered it.

I just pull the DMC relay every time I park the car for longer periods.

I think I will go with the trunk monkey. Thanks guys!
Honestly, though, I think a combo of insurance, the club and a car cover (I need one anyway to protect the car) is probably sufficient and certainly the most cost efficient. Perhaps the battery kill switch will come later. I like the idea of hidden switches. The only problem there, I suspect, is that the clock on the dash will have to be reset every time (but who really looks at their clock?).

If you tap your kill switch into the right line it will not effect your clock at all. Fuel pump relay works pretty well.
