Project '71 911T Update
Finally I started again on my '71 911T. Below are some pictures of the work I did so far.
I disassembled the sunroof and motor and all the hardware, and I'm thinking welding the sunroof part in. I would cut out the sheet metal which is on the inside so I can install a normal head liner. Did anyone do a conversion like this ? and is there anything I need to know? I try to avoid any leak problems later, and since I want to build this one for autocross, I don't need the sunroof. Thanks for any feedback ! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1170989900.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1170989928.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1170989952.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1170989973.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1170989994.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1170990015.jpg http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif Cheers |

Ditto on "qualified"! Keep the pics coming! Would love to know what the particulars on your project are (engine, suspension, flares, etc.)? Also, what part of Virginia are you in? I'm in the Richmond area.

Keep up the good work!! :D SmileWavy |
This may be a dumb question but what kind of welder are you using?
|
rothaus -
I also have a green '71. My color is Signal Green which, therefore, is The One True Green. Conda green is slightly brighter and has a bit more yellow in it. Can't really tell from the photo which you have, but most likely it's Conda. Signal Green was a factory special order color - I've been driving my car for almost 34 years and have only seen one other, so it's rather rare. Edit to add link. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172533430.jpg More bits and pieces http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172533464.jpg This is the other side abd how it looked before. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172533506.jpg Piece after piece. More to come. Cheers Engelberthttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/beerchug.gif |
Englebert...I am doing the same rocker panel replacement, and it looks like I have to take a donor chunk slightly further back like you did. Did you document your process when you did it? I'd love to take a look.
Thanks! |

I actually cut out the piece you see missing. and I welded it back in. I added a backing strip on the back. About a 3/8 wide piece of sheet metal. It helped to align the piece. You have to be careful weling in the piece, just go slow and don't try to weld it all the way at the time, or it will pull in a dent. Good luck. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172541476.jpg |
Engelbert,
Great work there! Welcome aboard and thanks for the pics! |
Englebert...Why did you cut it? Is it just easier to get to the rocker that way? Do you have any other pics of the rocker replacement? You can send anything you want to porscheparts@whirledmedia.com if you have a few.
|
Wow nice looking work are you a body man by trade?

I also had to add a piece between the rocker panel and the side panel since the side panel had thin material because of rust at that spot. I normally cut out the rusted pieces and not only patch over it, as you can see. I will post more pictures as I go along. Thanks |
Update on the Project 911T
Update !
Got the frame between the front hood and the wind shield done, and also the bottom corners of the windshield frame. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1173574785.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1173574803.jpg Cut out and replaced the section where the fender mounts. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1173574859.jpg This weekend I cut out the rear portion of the floor pan. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1173574987.jpg More to come Cheers http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/beerchug.gif Engelbert |
wow
|
what are you doing for corrosion protection and finishing in the hidden areas, such as behind the rockers?
|
Very impressive. What are your plans for the tub as far as coatings? After browsing the latest RSR thread, I would probably see about having the tub baked to get rid of all the goo and then coated for corrosion resistance. It would be reassuring that all that hard work would last as long as possible.
|
any updates here? fantastic work
