1997 911 with CA smog problem, help!
I received this note from a friend. Any thoughts?
...My 1997 Porsche 911 is unable to pass smog due to some inherent problem with this model. The only way for it to pass CA smog tests is to do a valve job. The car has only 50K miles and runs great. It should continue to run great for another 50K miles according to my mechanic. He told me that this is a common problem and my car really doesn’t need a valve job and even if they did one, the car would still run exactly as it runs now…except that my on board computer would allow it to pass smog. My only other recourse is to make an appointment with a “smog referee” and they will pass it one time only. That solves this problem for only two years. I’d rather just pay an outlaw to do this. Let me know your thoughts…. Thanks, “the polluter”

There is a sticky thread at the top of the 993 board, good info there.
