start up Idle speed

Hi All, my 911 1980 SC(,owned it only a liitter while) Airtemp 25 C about 78 F on initial start up cold, the idle speed hunts between 900 and around 1500 RPM then after a few minutes settles down to 900, is this normal or not?

Hi John

900 sounds about right. My 911T used to be set at 900, but when I built the 2.7RS engine I couldn't get it to idle smooth on the S cams at less than 1100 rpm. But it's easy with the older cars as they have a hand throttle between the seats.
