Any tricks for removing motor mounts?
Thinking about changing out my 20 yr old motor and tranny mounts. Checked the motor mount mounts and, as suspected, they are frozen. Any tricks to loosen/ avoid breaking the cross-bar other than trying to soak with PB blaster?
It would be a real shame if I broke the cross-bar and had to replace with a Rennline Stainless, wouldn't it? :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1171196977.jpg |
just did this. soak hell w/pb blaster for a week. its only 58FT LBS. torque from factory. pita to squirt bottom. just nail it w/long nozzle and squirt hell out of it. sprayed hell out of top, everyday waiting on pelican order to show up w/wevos.
take lil bolts, nut and lock washer and superglue lock washer to nut. let dry. wrap duck(quacky) tape around your middle finger, w sticky side out. attach nut w/lock washer to finger. place finger in correct position, and start to thread. do one side motor mt. at a time. 58 ft lbs big bolt. 17ft lbs lil bolts. |
I soaked (pb blaster) mine for 2 days and they came off pretty easily.

OK, soaked em overnight in PB Blaster and gave them a few taps with a hammer and a socket extension on the head of the bolt to help break the threads loose. I was able to move the bolts this AM!
Thanks! |
