				Service Manual

Hi guys, I have the Bentley manual. I am looking for a factory manual, but can't find anything at a reasonable price.... Does anybody know what this CD (http://www.datamanuals.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=46_56&products_id=3191) has on it? They claim it is an official workshop manual as given to the dealers? Of course at $20 I don't expect much.... The Porsche manuals are no longer available on microfiche, did anybody transfer them to CD? I hate to think about spending more than $1000 for manuals... Thanks for any info! Dietmar

Dietmar, If you are unwilling to spring for the factory manauls, the Bentley manual for your car is reported to be quite good for the DIY guy. You should also consider getting Waynes 101 Projects for your 911. As you note, the factory manuals are expensive and Por$he seems to want to keep it that way.

I have Waynes book and the Bentley manual. I asked Jerry Woods and he did not seem overly impressed with the Porsche factory manual...? Some of the people in my class agreed, so I am really reluctant to spend that kind of money. Is the content worth it? ...and back to my original question, has anybody ordered/seen this manual http://www.datamanuals.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=46_56&products_id=3191 ?

Between the Bentley manual, Wayne's books and this board you will have no problem working on your '87.

The true factory manual is basically intended for the person who has already attended a factory service school. It's interesting and extensive, but it doesn't hold your hand in any way. "Reattach flywheel." "Install pistons." I exaggerate a bit, and I'm just pulling those examples out of the air, but that's the sort of thing you'll find. You don't know how to install 911 pistons? Didn't you pay attention in class? The manual--actually many manuals--is also linear rather than cumulative: If you have a 1983 car, a lot of the information you need is is the 1973-1977 volumes, but then you need to also look into the 1983 volume to see what's different or not applicable.

Dietmar, You'd get a lot more help if you accepted emails from board members!

I'm guessing that what they're selling is a bootleg scan of the factory manuals. AFAIK, Porsche has not released the manuals on CD at a retail cost of $20. Stick with Bentley, Wayne's book, and this BBS. You'll get all the info you need.
