I know i'll probably get shot for asking this. . .

OK, just bought a new car - no, not a Porsche (still have that beauty) but WRX Subaru. Its my first Subaru but for what it is its quite fast and fun to drive.

Heres my question that is sure to get me shot:

Has anybody ever concidered or tried putting a Subaru boxer engine in a Porsche. This is more a mental excercise than anything else, but just the same I wonder what kind of performance could be had. The aftermarket is quite deep for the car and shortblocks are around $2k, and it IS a boxer design.

Any thoughts?

One of the guys on this board who I know personally has a 912 with a Subie engine in it. Do a search for it. He calls it Porscheru or something like that.

This 914 in the Porsche paddock at 2007 Rolex 24 has a Subaru WRX STI engine. Owner says it used the same motor mounts.

Since GM has a major stake in Subaru, I wish they'd take that engine and do a "retro-Corvair Spyder" either mid or rear-engined. I'd buy it, as I love that engine.

GM sold their interest in Subaru and now it is Toyota that has the major stake.

There is a member in the Canada West Region that put a subie engine into a 911.

The man is extremely gifted. He did all his own engineering and machining work - intake manifolds, ignition system, cooling system, etc. A real work of art.

I had a WRX for 3 years. If you are thinking of doing any mods, send me a pm, I can point you in the right direction.
