Help id carb part
I bought a box of carb parts last week, and included was a bag of these:
![]() They are thin plastic, almost Teflon feeling. They appear to be some kind of bushing, but I don't see them in any parts diagram. Is it possible these wrap the throttle shaft? Can anyone identify these guys?

Played with 911 carbs for many years and never seen anything like that. Wonder if it could be something to keep the float from bouncing around during shipment? Do not think that it wraps around the throttle shaft.

You might want to give the guys a PMO a call. They took the weber design and improved it so they might be able to provide some insight as to what that is. I have the PMO's and can not recall what that part might be.

Jon, I have never seen anything like that in my rebuild kits, nor in the exploded Weber diagram.
PMO does not answer the phone of course. But you might fax them. ![]()

I tried Richard, then I was on the phone with Weber North America. Jose' said that the part was no longer available, but it appeared on his parts diagram as something for the throttle shaft. That got me really confused, as I have a few different exploded views, and none show it. I have asked him to fax a copy of the exploded view, he has. He said he would, so I've got my fingers crossed.

I had ordered a couple throttle shaft bushings from PMO and that is what they sent. I expected to see something a little thicker though. Item 78 I believe from the diagram above.

That is the teflon insert to remedy leaks due to worn throttle shafts. I got some out of curiousity. I think it is something worth trying if you have severly worn shafts but I doubt it would return the shafts to "new" condition.
Side note: might be wary of people selling rebuilt carbs with "shafts nice and tight" as they may have only inserted these. IMO, "nice and tight" means body to shaft tolerance is withing spec, not that teflon has been wedged in and filled the gap. |

Shaft Bushings
X3
Item #78 in the diagram. Yes those are teflon throttle shaft bushings. Work very good on IDA 3c Webers. Saved a rebuild - lasted for 7 years prior to a complete bushing/shaft rebuild. Hey, if it gives a tight, leak free and a smooth bearing surface...explain to me just how that can be bad? Bob |

OK, I am an unobservant dunce, the bushings were right there.
Nice catch Bob!

I think it's a great solution, I just think full disclosure of this when selling carbs would be appropriate, that's all. |

If these are a factory part, perhaps many shafts that appear worn, could be remedied by replacing them. 74er- Did you actually replace these on your carbs? The shape confuses me a bit, as it wraps kind of like a barber poll, rather than flush, at the end. Could you explain how you did the job? Many thanks to all who responded!

Vintage Speed, yup, a repair- not a fix.
John, I was just echo'n 74er. (He's the one with good vision, good catch guy). Seems to me the teflon was a Stoddard Item. Shafts, butterflys and screws from Richard at PMO. Richard was still shaking his head I was replacing the butterflys. My dumb move was letting the carbs sit flat on the bench, (rather than on the manifolds or on a perch) When sitting on a bench the linkage does a slight engage and the butterflys don't seat...doing carbs at 3 in the morning with a race weekend 16 hour drive away doesn't help..... (did I just hear excuss #22). |

Jon, yup barber pole style. The ends bypass so no abrupt surface change.
Has anybody tried Pierce Manifold for those brass fitting items? Bob ![]() |

Does anyone know if this threaded "plug" is in PMO's (which I guess are still being manufactured) and is the same as in the Webers? Any place I can buy a plug like this new? |

Guys, I wish I could help on the drain-plugs, unfortunately I don't have them.
Bob, Thanks for that pic. Now, if I can figure out how to take the shafts apart without screwing them up.

When I took my shafts apart, I used a sharp pick to scribe the plates where they meet the shaft and marked them with the barrel number they came from. When I reassembled, I just lined up the plate with the scribe mark and then tightened the screws. Seemed to work well. Good Luck! |
