Can a 3.2 go into a 2.7 car easily?

I have a buddy that wants to put a 3.2 in his 1976 911S. We know that the 3.6 swap requires alot of modification - there are even kits out there for that swap.
Will he run into similar trouble with the 3.2? He is thinking about buying a rolled 84 and using the DME, harness, mounts etc from that car. Also, he wants to use his non-cat 2.7 exhaust system as he wont be able to afford SSI just yet. Any ideas here would be greatly appreciated!!!

It's not overly difficult. Get the Carrera engine, harness, brain, DME relay, altitude sensor and fuel pump from the donor car. If I recall correctly you will have to grind a little away from the old 915 bellhousing but I cannot recall why right now. I think it's for the flywheel sensors? Also you will need to get a different flywheel.

The idea of using the '76 exhaust system is a REALLY BAD IDEA!!! It is even more resrictive than the 3.2 system with cat, and is a killer with the extra heat produced by the thermal reactors! Besides, the 3.2 won't function properly without the O2 sensor.

Thanks as always Warren!

Will this be a "bolt in" operation for Aaron, or will he need to buy a kit to make the 3.2 fit? Any info is ought after and appreciated!

hi, i agree the 3.2 will fit, i think the only modification is with the exhaust, mainly the heater box which from what i understand is not a big problem, i am plaining to do the same with my 75 911s
Oh, and NO you do not have to grind the bell

The 3.2 will go in easily I did the 3.6 swap into my 76 Carrera 3 5 yrs ago. The 3.2 needs much of the same work. 1) notch the trans for DME sensor 2) If the donor is an '84 the flywheel is fine unless damaged/worn, the same is true of clutch/pp 3)use SSI and dual inlet muffler 4)wiring is the biggest issue if you use the whole electric console from the engine compartment of the donor it will simplify this part of the project. there was a good article in pano a few years ago about this swap
