Question Best adhesive for metal on metal?

I intend to glue some small brass letters onto Aluminium backing.

What glue would work best?

Thanks.

I have no idea if this would work, but have you considered JB Weld?

go see your friendly body shop with bits in hand and get them to use a two component ' panel bond '. it's specifically for metal to metal. clean both sides right before glueing, aluminum oxidizes in 1/2 hour and you won't get as good a bond. for less permanent use 3M emblem adhesive. clear sheet of sticky stuff. apply to letters, peel off backing and apply. used by bodyshops for emblems. JB weld would work great too, but be sure to clean metal first. Don.

+1 for JB Weld. That stuff is incredible, and will be more than adequate for what you're doing. Be sure to "scuff" both surfaces being glued with a Scotchbrite pad or some sandpaper.

Once bonded with JB Weld, you'll never get the pieces apart!

I did my wing with 3M Scotch-weld DP460. It's a structural adhesive used for things like bonding flares to a chassis. Probably overkill for an emblem. Trim adhesive tape is out of the question?

If you never want it to come off again, use 3M EC 2216.

Gunter, for bare metal surfaces, I've had good results with "Lexel", available at your local Rona!

It's slow to cure (days), but once cured, very strong (it stays rubbery).

+2 on JB Weld, it will glue air to water and anything else you have laying around that needs to be stuck together...

The structural stuff is pretty incredible. I just recently saw the Natl. Geo. tour of the Peterbilt factory. They use robotics and it was pretty interesting to see the arms apply the adhesive to the cabs. That's how they do it!
A friend uses it in his body shop and swears by it. Like Jack said it's great for flares and such.

Best,

Tom

Keep in mind that he's just asking about some small brass letters being glued to aluminum. My guess is that he doesn't need structural adhesive to do the job! A trip to the local hardware store for JB Weld or something similar will be more than adequate.
